DELIVERY OF ARTWORKS FOR JURYING ~ May 8-9, 2008, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. or May 10, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. No entries accepted after 4 p.m. May 10. Deliver all works to 555 Washington Ave., #105, Art Saint Louis’ new Gallery.
GRAND OPENING RECEPTION ~ Saturday, June 7, 2008, 6-9 p.m. Free & open to the public.
JURORS
~ Mark Douglas, artist, Associate Professor of Art, Fontbonne University, St. Louis
~ Ken Anderson, artist, Professor, Department of Art & Art History, University of Missouri-St. Louis
THEME ~ For “Patterns and Pixels,” Art Saint Louis seeks artworks that explore the complexity of form and shapes that can be created by pattern, repetition and rhythm—from Mother Nature to the Computer Age. Works that focus on repeating or cumulative elements of design within the artwork.
ELIGIBILITY
~ Open to all visual artists 21 & older residing within a 200-mile radius of St. Louis, MO.
~ Artists representing all levels of experience—from emerging to established—are welcome.
~ Student work is eligible but must be produced independent of instruction.
MEDIA
~ Original artworks in all media* are considered. (*NO web-based works, i.e. works that rely on the use of the Internet for display. We are not yet equipped to exhibit work in these media). Please check with us after 24 regarding submitting ceiling installed work.
~ Artists working in VHS, DVD or CD-ROM must provide all equipment necessary to view work.
ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS
~ Juried from the actual artwork only.
~ Proposals for work are not accepted—this exhibit is juried from the actual work.
~ Limit 2 original artworks, created within the past two years (2006-2008).
~ Works may not have been shown in any juried exhibit in the St. Louis area in the past 6 months or in any juried exhibit at Art Saint Louis.
~ All works must be ready for installation. 2-d works must be framed (no clip frames & no saw tooth hangers), matted, equipped with hanging wire & ready to hang. If your 2-d work is unframed yet presented in an alternative fashion, call ASL to discuss.
~ Installation & larger 3-d works: Please call ASL to discuss particulars. Keep in mind that the ASL Gallery is carpeted. Installation & large 3-d works are encouraged, but we request that artist call prior to delivering work to discuss details. Artists should provide detailed installation directions with artwork upon delivery for jurying.
~ Pedestal-displayed works: Art Saint Louis has a limited number of standard-sized pedestals. If your work requires an over-sized or odd-sized pedestal, you may need to provide your own.
~ No wet paintings.
~ Works that do not follow the rules of entry will not be shown to the jurors.
ARTWORK SIZE LIMITS
~ Artworks must fit through standard double-sized doors.
~ Final installation size may not exceed 10' high and/or 16' wide.
SALES, COMMISSION, INSURANCE
~ Works may be for sale or not for sale. Whether for sale or not, for insurance purposes a dollar value must be determined by the artist. Insurance value is 50% of retail value. Please do not list works as POR (price on request).
~ Art Saint Louis encourages sales of artworks and retains a 30% donation on all works sold as a result of this exhibition.
~ Artworks are insured at 50% while on exhibition. Artist may purchase additional insurance at $2 per $100.
AGREEMENT
~ Accepted artists volunteer 4 hours time per each accepted artwork toward production of exhibit, or buy-out time at $20/artwork. Volunteer tasks include: exhibit installation, opening reception, Saturday gallery monitoring, de-installation.
AWARDS
~ After selecting works for exhibition, the jurors will select 4-5 artists/artworks to receive (non-cash) Awards of Excellence. In addition to receiving recognition for their outstanding work in the exhibit, Award recipients will be eligible for the curated “Honor Awards 2009” exhibit (March-April 2009).
TRAVELING EXHIBIT
~ Some of the works featured in “Patterns and Pixels” will be selected for exhibition in two traveling portions of the exhibit to be presented during July 2008 at The Heights, Richmond Heights, MO, and The Centre, Rolla, MO. The traveling exhibits are optional.
ENTRY FEES
~ Entry fees are non-refundable and are used toward the production of this exhibition.
~ $15 current members of Art Saint Louis
~ $25 non-members
~ or $5 with NEW $45 Artist Level Membership=$50 total.

NOTIFICATION
~ Notification of acceptance & declination is done by e-mail. If artist does not have e-mail, he/she must provide a SASP (self-addressed stamped postcard) with ¢17 postage for notification of acceptance/declination.
~ Notifications are sent to ALL entering artists after May 13 2008.
~ Declined works are to be picked up from Art Saint Louis May 14-16, 2008, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. & May 17, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
PICK-UP OF EXHIBITED WORKS ~ June 28, 2008, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and June 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
ABOUT ART SAINT LOUIS ~ ART SAINT LOUIS is a non-profit community art organization & Gallery located in the heart of downtown St. Louis at 917 Locust Street. The Gallery will be permanently relocating to 555 Washington Avenue as of May 1, 2008. Art Saint Louis has served St. Louis regional artists & the community at-large for over 21 years.
