Visual Arts Scholarship: Deadline 1 February 2010

In honor of Naomi Winston, an annual scholarship has been established and made available, through the National Society of Arts and Letters, to young visual artists between the ages of 16 and 22. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success.

The scholarship funds are only for private study, for special training or for personal advancement in the applicant’s art medium. They can be used for workshops, museum programs, summer programs, etc. The funds are not for college tuition, housing or travel.

The maximum amount awarded to an applicant is $5000.

Photo call for entry: Deadline 2-3 January 2010

CALL FOR ENTRY FOR UPCOMING PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

Framations Art Gallery is proud to present Beyond the Lens IV, their fourth annual photography exhibition, that will run January 9 – February 7, 2010. Beyond the Lens IV is an all-subject, walk-inn, juried exhibition of photographic work. Prints from digital processes and film will be juried together. All area artists 18 years of age and older are eligible to participate. Eligible artwork must be original, completed within the last two years, and not completed under instruction. Work will be accepted up to 30" x 40", including the frame.

The exhibit will be juried by Jeffrey Vaughn, Professor of Art at Lewis and Clark Community College. Awards will be: Best of Show-$100, First place-$50, Second Place-$35, and Third Place-$25. Honorable Mention ribbons will also be awarded.

There is a non-refundable entry fee of $25.00 for up to three pieces. No double entries accepted. Entrants must hand-deliver work to Framations on either January 2 or 3, 2010 from 12-5 pm. Framations is located at 218 North Main Street, St. Charles, MO, 63301. Artists will be notified January 6 or 7, 2010 if their work is accepted into the show and retrieval of declined artwork will be January 7-9, 2010. The Opening Reception for the exhibition will be Saturday, January 9, from 1-4 with awards at 2:30 pm. The exhibit will run through February 7.

Call for Work: Deadline 1 February 2010

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is hosting a new indoor juried fine arts & fine crafts show called Arts by the River at the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. March 20-21, 2010.

We are seeking artists in the following media: mixed media 2D & 3D, baskets, clay, drawing, fiber, glass, leather, metal, painting, pastels, photography, sculpture and wood.

PDN's Photo Annual call for entries

Prizes/Awards/Recognition

An awards celebration for the winners will take place in May 2010 in New York, NY. The winners and their work will be featured in the May issue of PDN and on our Web site. NEW THIS YEAR! The Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation and Maine Media Workshops Scholarship and Prize for New Directions in Creative Photographic Portraiture. Photographers are invited to enter portrait photography for consideration in this new category.
The winner will receive $15,000 and a solo exhibit at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine.

Prizes total over $20,000!

Marty Forscher Fellowship

The Marty Forscher Fellowship recognizes students and young professionals with a talent for humanistic photography. The fund will award two grants in 2009. Photographers are eligible by entering humanistic documentary images to the PDN Photo Annual. The Fellowship is sponsored by Parsons School for Design and Photo District News.

Sheldon Gallery Talk: Saturday, 12 December 2009

Please join us for the gallery talk “William Christenberry and Friends” by Gallery Director Olivia Lahs-Gonzales on Saturday, December 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gallery of Photography. Admission Free.

William Christenberry was one of several artists working with photography in the 1960s and 70s to be part of a greater dialogue about seeing photographically which also included William Eggleston, Lee Friedlander, Garry Winogrand, Diane Arbus, Joel Meyerowitz, Lewis Baltz, Robert Adams and John Gossage. Olivia Lahs-Gonzales will trace these interconnections in her gallery talk on Saturday, December 12 at 11:00.

Call for Affordable Art

Last call!

Drop off is Monday the 14th, the show is the 18th, advertising will be ready by next week. If you have already contacted me your work will for sure be shown - after that it is first come , first served. We have more wall space and more table space left (although not much).

No Commission, 5 bucks to cover food/drink costs, must be 60 or under, if you want it on the wall it needs a wire, and you need to advertise with everyone you know!
