Call for Work: Deadline 1 May 2009

Women in Photojournalism Call for Entries
Juried Exhibit and Gallery Reception Information

There are no categories, only your interpretation of the theme, "Celebrating Our Past Looking, Towards the Future". Your photographs can represent your definition of the theme through people, place, action or event milestone. Submissions must be by women photojournalists. Single entries only. Photos must have been taken between July 1, 2008 and April 25, 2009.

Deadline for entry is Midnight, May 1, 2009.

Up to 50 winning images will be selected by judges, including up to 2 best of show. Winners will be contacted and asked to submit an exhibit quality 14x18 matted print for the opening reception June 11, 2009. Copyright holders retain rights to the photograph. NPPA will have the right to print winners in the magazine or on the official website for conference or promotional materials.

~SUBMITTING YOUR PHOTOS~
You can submit by clicking here or going to the Convergence09 page and clicking on the link to enter the Women in Photojournalism Contest. Once you click the contest link and login it will automatically take to you to the entry form. Enter info in each field, then hit the browse button and select image from your computer. When done hit "Submit." You must do this for each photograph you want to enter. Files need to be 200-300 ppi, JPEG files and Include the following information under the Photoshop FILE INFO or IPTC fields for each image: 1) Caption Field: image title followed by complete caption (DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME HERE). 2) Caption Writer: your initials. 3) Headline: image title. 4) Byline: photographer’s name. 5) Credit: your affiliation or school. 6) Source: copyright holder.

Payment must be made with a credit card at the time of print submission.

Blurb contest: Deadline 16 July 2009

Blurb contest: Photography.Book.Now 2009

Blurb, the maker of custom photo books, is the organizer of the Photography.Book.Now international juried competition with a $25,000 grand prize.

Three categories for book submissions:
Fine Art - your best photography in book form
Editorial - compelling visual narratives
Commercial - fashion, advertising and corporate communication

Submission deadline is July 16. Entry fee is $35 (US) per book.

Submissions must be “self-published books printed using a commercial quality printing and binding mechanism,” but they do not have to be made by Blurb.

Prizes:
One grand prize, $25K in cash
A winner, first and second runner-up in each category
a People’s Choice award
several honorable mention awards

Call for Work: Deadline 18 April 2009

Entry forms are currently available for our next juried exhibition at Art Saint Louis, "Out Of The Blue," open to Midwest regional artists over age 21 & residing within 200 miles of St. Louis. Open to all media* (*no ceiling installed work, no works that rely on use of Internet). Only works created in past 2 years (2007-2009). Juried from actual work, limit 2.

Works submitted for this show should investigate blue--the color, emotions, symbols, associations and/or sudden revelations. Blue paint, blue skies, Little Boy Blue, out of the blue, the blues, bluebird of happiness, blue planet.

Exhibition dates: May 18-June 25, 2009 in the Art Saint Louis Gallery, downtown St. Louis.

Juried by artists Michael Byron, Professor, Associate Dean of Faculty, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Art, Washington University in St. Louis, and Douglass Freed, former Director, Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, Sedalia, MO.

Call for Work: Deadline 1 April 2009

Interpret fashion through different forms of the arts. How would fashion be defined through the perspective of visual art, music, theater, and dance? Even through visual art, How many different ways can fashion be explained?

We are looking for unconventional works of art that would interpret fashion as the artist will translate it. All media is encouraged, especially those that expand beyond two-dimensional means (although 2Dmedia is an equally valid display for the subject). Artists and guests alike feel free to wear original/eccentric articles of clothing during the opening of the show.

Call for Art --- "The Next Generation of Artists"

The Soulard Art Market (SAM) and Contemporary Gallery is calling for submissions to "The Next Generation of Artists", a juried exhibition of student artists from May 8, 2009 through June 6, 2009. Prizes will be awarded by select businesses such as Art Mart, Third Degree Glass, and more!

Exhibition runs from May 8 – June 6, 2009, with opening receptions Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, from 7pm to 10pm.

Soulard Art Market is looking to represent talented student artists in our Contemporary Art Gallery, Artists must be between the ages of 14-19. We will be asking for proof with a student I.D. at the time of drop-off. Each artist may submit up to two original works. We accept most media (Sorry, NO video or ceiling-suspended artwork). Artwork displayed last year may not be submitted.

Theme(s) of the Event – Students may select one (1) of the below themes for their submission pieces.
1/ My Best Work
2/ Inspirations from Spring
3/ Passions – What are you passionate about?
4/ Portraits – Self, another person, or animal
5/ A topic related to a poem

Submission Guidelines:
- No more than 2 Pieces of work to be juried.
- Sculpture should be no larger than: Height: 10 sq ft (Height: 6ft, Width: 2ft.)
-Sculpture must have a stand or be displayable on a 10" deep windowsill.
- Framed 2D artwork must be ready for hanging (no saw tooth hangers).
- Artwork must be presentable and must have wire already attached.
- All artwork for consideration MUST be submitted via JPEG/JPG image.
- Accompanying e-mail must include title/ media/measurements, contact e-mail address, and phone number.
- File size for each work cannot exceed 500kb and must be attached in jpg (jpeg) format.
- Website address submissions will NOT be accepted.
- File Name should be named as such: Artists Name_Name of Piece_Dimensions.jpg
Example of File Name: (John Smith_title of piece1_16x20.jpg)
- Media submitted should NOT include Video or Ceiling-Suspended Work, and will NOT be accepted.
