National Call for Work

William Shearburn Gallery is pleased to announce that it is representing Emerson, a St. Louis based corporation, as art consultant on an exciting project.

Emerson is issuing a call for entry to artists or artist collaborations that are interested in submitting a proposal to create unique artwork for one or more locations in the new auditorium lobby at Emerson Corporate Headquarters.

The Jacoby Arts Center of Alton, IL is reviewing work (all media) for an upcoming exhibition. We are seeking abstract work for an exhibition November 9 – January 12, 2008. Please include 9 – 12 images representative of your work, resume and artist statement.

The gallery at the Jacoby Arts Center is dedicated to making the visual arts accessible to the region and creating opportunities for individual artists in their pursuit of artistic excellence. A diverse annual exhibition schedule and exhibition-related programs introduce new ideas and enable individuals to experience contemporary art in a meaningful way. The 100 year old west wing of the Jacoby building houses the stunning 3500 square foot gallery that welcomes visitors to the Arts Center. In addition, we encourage the development of arts services and programs including art classes, ARTEAST Studio Tour, Community Arts Access Program, Arts-in-the-Park, and free family art activities.

The Julia Dean Photo Workshops

The Julia Dean Photo Workshops in southern California (and with many travel trips as well) are a great resource and highly recommended. Have a look at their web site to see some great opportunities.

Julia worked with Berenice Abbott, and is a greatly accomplished photographer and a fine person. Highly recommended.

Studio Altius Upcoming Events

“LET THEM EAT ART” BASTILLE DAY GALLERY EVENT
July 13, 6pm-11pm
Maplewood’s annual art festival! Come enjoy art, music, and food. Maplewood’s finest restaurants are offering specials; live music and entertainment will be filling the streets; and Studio Altius will be exhibiting the photography of David J. Cerven, Darlene McGee, Kathryn Redell, Lee Shannon Rhoades, and Mark Schwigen. This will be the last day for this gallery exhibition and the last day you will be able to buy these pieces.

STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
July 28, 12pm-4pm
This workshop is an opportunity for photographers to hone their skills of shooting models in the studio. The emphasis is on experiential learning, dialogue/networking with colleagues, and coaching of studio skills. Multiple sets will be used with different lighting techniques. We will have one model for every two photographers registered and a MUA. If the weather is good, we can shoot outside too. Feel free to bring your own equipment and props to add to the mix. David Cerven, the owner of Studio Altius, will be on hand to give tips, suggestions, and advice... coaching as needed. A fee of $60 will cover the models and MUA as well as studio time. WEBSTER/WASH U WEDNESDAYS
Are you a full time student at Webster University or Washington University? If so, you can shoot in the studio for $10/hour on Wednesday mornings from 8am-noon. Regular student discount does not apply to this program. Please call or email for more information or to make a reservation.

THE GREATER ST. LOUIS PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT SALE
This event looks like it will be happening in early October. Studio Altius will be putting on a weekend sale of professional photography equipment of all shapes and sizes. This will be a pro photographer’s market, you could buy and sell cameras, lighting, props, backdrops, computer supplies, etc. There might be a few vendors there as well. I will update with more details as they become available.
