Lehman College Art Gallery is seeking artist’s work for “Informed by Function” scheduled for Feb.- May, 2008. Open Society Institute invites photographers and artists to submit a proposal and completed body of work for consideration in the Moving Walls 14 group exhibition.

Moving Walls is an annual documentary photography exhibition produced by OSI, a private operating and grantmaking foundation that works to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens. The exhibition series is an artistic interpretation of the obstacles - e.g., political oppression, economic instability, and racism - that society often erects and the struggles to tear those barriers down. Since its inception in 1998, Moving Walls has featured more than seventy photographers whose work address a variety of social justice and human rights issues that coincide with OSI’s mission. Now accepting entries for traveling postcard art exhibition featuring works in the four-by-six-inch postcard size. Purdue University Galleries ( West Lafayette, Indiana) invite entries for a national exhibition examining the role of gender in contemporary society, including constructs of masculinity, femininity, androgyny, etc. The exhibition will be presented in the Robert L. Call for artists at Art Coop's "The Pride Show"

Artists are invited to submit three works each in any medium or mixed media for exhibition at The Pride Show, opening June 8th at Art Coop.

The purpose of The Pride Show is to celebrate diversity among artists of all genders and sexual orientations coming together with pride in solidarity for one another.

In a time when a firestorm of fundamentalist bigotry has stolen the gay community's most basic human right, The Pride Show is an affirmation that while most of us aren't gay, we're all human. Therefore, exhibiting at Art Coop's The Pride Show is open to all artists without regard to gender or sexual orientation.

Whether GLBT or straight as an arrow, it's time for all kinds of St. Louis artists to exhibit together in solidarity at The Pride Show in a shared affirmation of human diversity and respect for each other that we all can take pride in.

For works submitted to be hung on the wall, each artist is generally limited to approximately 6' feet of horizontal wall space for the three works. Exceptions will be made for large works where necessary.

Art Coop charges no gallery commission on sales of your work, but there is a $25 entry fee per artist (not per work), payable on installation of your work. Exhibition is limited to the first 33 artists accepted.

Deadline for received submissions is May 25th. But don't delay submitting. Submissions will be reviewed as received and accepted or rejected only until we have 33 artists accepted.

International Call for Art: Sukkat Shalom: A Shelter of Peace

Sukkat Shalom are the Hebrew words for "Shelter of Peace." A sukkah is a simple, temporary shelter, open to the sky. The concept of a sukkah is an ancient and powerful symbol. They were built in the wilderness by a people who for generations were slaves and were now free. With little more than the hope of a better life to help carry them on their journey, our people knew, even then, that to truly be free, all people must be free, and to truly find peace, the shelter of peace must extend to everyone.

Artists of all faith traditions are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly.

Central Reform Congregation is a liberal Jewish congregation, and the only Jewish presence in the City of St. Louis, and located at located at 5020 Waterman, St. Louis, MO 63108. The congregation represents a diverse and inclusive group who accept the responsibility of maintaining a community of respect and friendship. Central Reform provides a home for us and for our children in which we strive to create an environment of warmth, caring, growth and commitment.

The exhibit will hang in the prominent gallery space open to the public and used by the broader community for a variety of functions. Art accepted in this exhibit will be seen and appreciated daily!

Open to all artists over age 18. Work must be original, executed by the submitting artist and not have been previously exhibited in any public exhibition in metro St. Louis in the 12 months prior to exhibit opening on 9/29/07. Work must have been completed in the previous 3 years. Work created under instruction is not eligible.

Jurying will be based on JPGs emailed or on CD ONLY. No slides or photographs. Images must represent actual work to be delivered. Clearly label file with the name of the work and entry number. Images should be no larger than 72 dpi, 800 pixels on the longest side. Jurying will be blind. Do not put your name on the image file name, please. One detail image may be included for each piece. Submitting artists agree to allow reproduction of their digital files for publicity, educational and archival purposes. CRC reserves the right to refuse to exhibit any artwork they deem unacceptable due to poor craftsmanship or significant departure from the images sent. Inclusion of an artist's statement is strongly encouraged.

Wall-hung work must be suitably framed with a wire, ready to hang, no larger than 20x24. The gallery space is not suitable for alternative presentations. All framed artworks must be firmly wired for hanging - no clip frames or sawtooth hangers. Work without an appropriate hanging apparatus will be disqualified. Sculptural 3-D work is encouraged but must include appropriate pedestal and protection. Artists should know that the gallery space is public. All 2D and 3D media is allowed. No film or video. No ceiling-hung installations. Proposals that do not
strictly adhere to the requirements will be disqualified.

A 20% commission will be retained by CRC. Work remains the property of the artist until sold. Sold artworks shall remain in the exhibition until the last day of the show. All exhibited artworks will be insured for 50% of their sale price. If NFS, please note the insurance value on the Entry Form. Cash prizes for first, second and third place. CRC is not responsible for work not picked up by Dec. 5. 2007.

Non-refundable entry fee is $15 for up to three images. Entry fees from countries outside the USA must pay with International Money Order only.

Judy Onofrio

"Aside from the extravagance of color, surface ornamentation, and ever-present sense of humor, each work tells a story of utopian wishes and dreams, a saga of seduction, duality and temptation."

Mad Art Gallery is a unique alternative gallery housed in a 1930's Art Deco Police Station which has been beautifully restored and converted into a gallery space. The gallery is "dedicated to creating exhibitions and cultural programs that help cultivate artists as well as art audiences."

The Women's Caucus for Art is a local chapter of the National Women's Caucus for Art. Our mission is to support and encourage the growth and development of women in the Arts through advocacy, recognition, education and inclusion. Membership is open to all.

ELIGIBILITY
~ Open to all visual artists 21 & older residing within a 200-mile radius of St. Louis, MO.
~ Artists representing all levels of experience—from emerging to established—are welcome.
~ Student work is eligible but must be produced independent of instruction.

MEDIA
~ Original artworks in all media* are considered (*no web-based/i.e. works that rely on the use of the Internet for display. We are not equipped to exhibit work in these media). Artists working in VHS, DVD or CD-ROM must provide all equipment necessary to view work.
~ Ceiling installed works are NOT eligible.

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS
~ Juried from the actual artwork only.
~ Limit 2 artworks, created within the past two years (2005-2007).
~ Works may not have been shown in any juried exhibit in the St. Louis area in the past 6 months or in any juried exhibit at Art Saint Louis.
~ All works must be ready for installation. 2-d works must be framed (no saw tooth hangers or clip frames), matted, equipped with hanging wire & ready for installation. If your 2-d work is unframed, yet presented in an alternative fashion, call ASL to discuss.
~ Installation & larger 3-d works: Please call ASL to discuss particulars. Installation & large 3-d works are encouraged, but we request that artist call prior to delivering work to discuss details. Artists should provide detailed installation directions with artwork upon delivery for jurying.
~ No wet paintings.
~ Proposals for work are not accepted—this exhibit is juried from the actual work.
~ Works that do not follow the rules of entry will not be shown to the jurors.

ARTWORK SIZE LIMITS
~ Artworks must fit in our standard passenger elevator (with 3'x8' door opening).
~ Final installation size may not exceed 9' high and/or 16' wide.

SALES, COMMISSION, INSURANCE
~ Works may be for sale or not for sale. Whether for sale or not, for insurance purposes a dollar value must be determined by the artist. Please do not list works as POR (price on request).
~ Art Saint Louis encourages sales of artworks and retains a 30% donation on all works sold as a result of this exhibition.
~ Artworks are insured at 50% while on exhibition. Artists may purchase additional insurance at $2 per $100.

AGREEMENT
~ Accepted artists volunteer 4 hours time per each accepted artwork toward production of exhibit, or buy-out time at $20/artwork. Volunteer tasks may include: exhibit installation, opening reception, gallery monitoring, de-installation.

AWARDS
~ After selecting works for exhibition, the jurors will select 4-5 artists/artworks to receive (non-cash) Awards of Excellence. In addition to receiving recognition for their outstanding work in the exhibit, Award recipients will be eligible for the curated “Honor Awards 2008” exhibit (March-April 2008).

~ Entry fees are non-refundable and are used toward the production of this exhibition.
