CALL FOR ENTRY NOW AVAILABLE

"Picture of Health"  juried exhibition
Deadline to enter: March 21, 2014

PICTURE OF HEALTH
It is widely recognized that the arts can have a profound impact on health and healing. Art can infiltrate the challenging hospital environment with offerings of beauty, spirituality, humor and celebration. Works submitted for this all media juried exhibit should embody, illustrate or otherwise express concepts of physical, spiritual and/or mental wellbeing, i.e. "What is your picture of health?" Artworks are sought to further the goals of the exhibition program to create a healing, uplifting space for patients, families, and staff caregivers at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

EXHIBITION SPACE & DATES
This group exhibition is presented by Art Saint Louis at Barnes-Jewish Hospital with generous support from The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The exhibit will be presented in the hallway adjacent to the South lobby of the main campus of Barnes-Jewish Hospital off of Kingshighway Blvd. in St. Louis, MO.  Exhibition dates: June 3, 2014-October 1, 2014. The exhibition will feature approximately 15 to 20 artworks total.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to artists 21 years of age and older living in the St. Louis, Missouri region and surrounding 200-mile radius. Chicago, IL and Kansas City, MO are not eligible.

DEADLINE
The deadline to submit works for this exhibit is March 21, 2014. We encourage you to send your entry in before the deadline. Entries postmarked by March 21, but not received in the mail by March 25 will be returned to artist.

OUR JURORS
Nationally exhibited artist Bunny Burson, St. Louis, MO; Sarah Colby, artist and Arts + Healthcare Program Coordinator, The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO; and Jennifer Arvin, Director of Communications & Marketing, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

SPECIFICATIONS
Two-dimensional wall-displayed flat artworks only. Sorry, but no sculpture. Limit 2 original artworks in all styles, techniques & media. Framed artworks or gallery-wrapped canvas only. No clip-style frames. No sawtooth hangers. NO artworks that are nailed, pinned, tacked, taped, velcroed, painted on, adhefoodred, or affixed directly to/on walls. No loose plexi that is clipped or nailed to wall. Artworks must be completed in the last three years (2011-2014).

SIZE LIMITS
Final installation size, including frame, not to exceed 48" wide or 36" high/tall.

IMAGERY CONTENT/LEGAL
Artworks featured in this exhibit must be considerate of the Hospital location and those who work in and use this facility. Artworks may not include any of the following subjects: nudity, profanity, sexual, violent or political themes.

JURYING, FORMATTING & MATERIALS REQUIRED
Judging is done by JPEGs on CD only. Limit 2 JPEGs per artwork: 1 full view (full view is required) & if necessary, 1 close-up/detail view. JPEGs on ONE (1) CD that MUST be readable by both Mac & PC. JPEGs must be RGB Color (NO grayscale), 300 dpi preferred, minimum 800 pixels. Do not submit low resolution images. Title each JPEG file to correspond to image # on the entry form using the following format: yourlastname.image1. Include printed image reference sheet with a small-sized image of each artwork on CD (prefer color print-out; if not available, b/w ok). Do not include any unrelated files, folders or documents on CD. NO iPhoto folders, no resumes! ONLY your JPEGs should be on the CD. Label CD with artist's full name and place in protective case for mailing. Submissions that do not comply with rules of entry will not be presented to the juror. Works selected for exhibition that are not accurately depicted by JPEGs may be removed from exhibit at Artistic Director's discretion.

THE JURYING PROCESS
If you are not already aware, jurying an exhibition at Art Saint Louis is always an anonymous and fair process. What this means is that at no time before or during the jurying process do our Jurors know the names of entering artists. The Jurors are presented all entrants' JPEGs in an anonymous digital image presentation and the only information provided to them about the artwork is the following: artwork title, year, media, dimensions & method of presentation (i.e. wall, pedestal, floor). Jurors are never shown the names of any artists. Both artworks that you submit for jurying are presented one after the other in the presentation the jurors view. So, if you are artist #25, your two entries are in the presentation after artist #24 and before artist #26. From the jurying presentation and info provided about the artworks, the jurors make their selections for the final exhibit. Artwork selection decisions are in part based on a set of specific jurying instructions & criteria relating to the theme of the exhibit as well as specific conditions & rules of the Gallery. At no time are the Jurors shown entrants' names and oftentimes do not even see names for selected artists until they arrive to the Gallery to view the final exhibit on the Gallery walls.

SALES & INSURANCE
Artworks are insured at 50% of retail value during exhibit. Artist responsible for work in transit to/from ASL. All sales are through Art Saint Louis with 30% donation on work sold to ASL and 70% to artist. Artist responsible for delivery of sold work to buyer at end of exhibit.

ARTIST HONORARIUMS & AWARDS
All artists whose works are selected for this exhibition will receive an honorarium of $150. Additionally, two artists will be selected by the public, via popular vote facilitated through social media interaction, to receive a non-cash "Audience Choice" award. These two "Audience Choice" award-winning artists will be recognized in program materials online and will each receive a complimentary, one-year membership to Art Saint Louis.
