Still Life:
The Ordinary Made
Extraordinary

Juror: Kate Breakey
Deadline: November 14, 2016
Exhibition prints due December 21, 2016
Gallery exhibition opens January 2, 2017

Still life is a genre that allows the photographer time - to reflect, to organize, to compose, to light the subject as s/he sees fit. Still life allows the photographer to elevate the mundane, or, as Edward Weston put it, "... to photograph a rock, have it look like a rock, but be more than a rock."
For Still Life: The Ordinary Made Extraordinary, we encourage fresh eyes brought to still life in all its forms, traditional to surreal.  All capture methods and processes are welcome.

Juror Kate Breakey will select 35 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and another 40 for our Online Gallery. All 75 images will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog.

Artists Guild: Wednesday, 12 October 2016

The St Louis Artists guild Illustrators / PHIL BERWICK TELLS THE MERFERD STORY

Our Guest presenter will be St. Louis artist, Phil Berwick who will spin an amazing story of how he took his cartoon character, Merferd to a whole new level of street action a couple years ago after the Ferguson unrest. Phil has some great tales of making new friends in an old neighborhood with just art as a common denominator.

This event is free and open to the public. There is free parking and lots of new folks to meet!

Call for Work: Deadline 21 November 2016

CALL FOR ARTWORK EXPLORING THE POWER AND INFLUENCE OF COLOR
AT THE FOUNDRY ART CENTRE

Color can change a viewer's perception of practically anything. It impacts emotion, context, narrative, and one's personal psychological response. Open to all media, Arbitrary Color is a juried exhibition that explores not just the colors in artwork, but the entire color palette used to accentuate the concept of the work. In focusing on one specific element of design, Arbitrary Color challenges the artist in their execution of all principles and elements of art design. All entries are due by Monday, November 21, 2016. Arbitrary Color will open on Friday, January 20, 2017 with an opening reception from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. A gallery talk will be given prior to the reception at 5:30pm. Three awards will be given at the opening reception, two $200 juror’s choice awards and a $500 or Going Solo exhibition juror’s choice award. This exhibition closes on Friday, March 3, 2017. Calls for entry are available online at foundryartcentre.org or at the Foundry Art Centre, located at 520 North Main Center in St. Charles, Missouri.
