Call for Work: Deadline 20-29 November 2015

Framations black logo

Call for Monochromatic Artwork  aims to focus on more than one type of"values"
Not everything is as simple as black and white. There's the gray scale in between. Or in this case, Monochrome of any color. Framations Art Gallery, located on Historic Main Street in St. Charles, returns to a familiar theme in a new exhibit this winter. "Monochrome II" will focus on artwork that is at least primarily monochromatic, featuring values of any color. Though the theme applies to the imagery, it can be any subject matter that the artist chooses. This exhibit is open to work in all 2D and 3D mediums. The exhibit will be on display November 27, 2015 - January 7, 2016. Entries are due to November 20 and 21 from 10-6 and on November 29 from 12-5 pm. Artists can enter up to four pieces with an entry fee of $8 per piece.

Framations periodically host exhibits, termed their "Art and Awareness Series", that incorporate awareness in areas that affect our community. In this exhibit, they are focusing on values, meaning the shades of a color used in artwork. Another meaning of the word “values” refers to your principles or standards.  Some would say the value of a person’s character can be judged by how you treat those around you.  Thanks to assistance from St. Louis Area Foodbank, Framations offers their customers an opportunity to help those whose basic needs require the help and kindness of their community.
Each week, an estimated 57,100 people rely upon the St. Louis Area Foodbank for food assistance. In 2009, the Foodbank distributed over 22 million pounds of food. The numbers are incredible. With tough
economic times and the upcoming holidays, simply having adequate meals for yourself and your family means a lot. If you feel so moved, you are encouraged to bring your unopened, non-perishable food items and toiletries to Framations Nov 20 – Jan 7.  Donating items for the food drive will earn artists a discount on their entry fee, and will also earn customers a 15% discount off their total purchase.

This exhibit is open to work in all 2D and 3D mediums. The exhibit will be on display November 27, 2015 - January 7, 2016. Entries are due to November 20 and 21 from 10-6 and on November 29 from 12-5 pm. Artists can enter up to four pieces with an entry fee of $8 per piece, or $6 with items for the food drive. The Juror for this exhibit will be Robert Langnas, an artist, juror, lecturer, and full time faculty member of the nationally-accredited art department at St. Louis Community College's Florissant Vallery Campus. THE JURYING PROCESS
The method by which ALL exhibitions are juried at Art Saint Louis is always a fair and blind (anonymous) process. What this means is that at no time before or during the jurying process do our Jurors know the names of entering artists. The Jurors are presented all entrants' JPEGs in an anonymous digital image presentation and the only information provided to them pertains to the artwork and includes the following: artwork title, year, media, dimensions, and method of presentation (displayed on the wall, sits on a pedestal). Jurors are never shown the names of any artists. All artworks that you submit for jurying are presented one after the other in the presentation that the jurors view. So, if you are artist #25, your artworks/entries are in the presentation after artist #24 and before artist #26. From the jurying presentation and information provided about the artworks, the jurors make their selections for the final exhibit. Artwork selection decisions are in part based on a set of specific jurying instructions & criteria relating to the theme of the exhibit as well as specific conditions & rules of the Gallery. For non-thematic exhibitions, a well-rounded exhibit is based on the Jurors' aesthetics along with general exhibition criteria established for all exhibits by Art Saint Louis' Artistic Director. This is a blind process and at no time are the Jurors shown entrants' names, and oftentimes they do not even see names for selected artists until they arrive to the Gallery to view the final exhibit on the Gallery walls. Ours is a fair jurying process.

SALES & INSURANCE
All artworks must either have a sale price or be marked Not for Sale (NFS). No works marked POR (price on request) will be accepted. Artist's sale prices listed with original entry submitted for jurying may not be changed after entry deadline (October 24, 2015). All sales are through Art Saint Louis with 30% donation/commission on work sold to ASL and 70% to artist. Sale price includes Art Saint Louis' commission. Artist responsible for delivery of sold work to buyer at end of exhibit. Artworks are insured at 50% of retail value during exhibit. Artist responsible for work in transit to/from ASL.

FRAMING & FINAL PRESENTATION
  • All work selected for exhibit must be delivered to Gallery ready to install.
  • 2-d work must be framed & equipped with hanging wire stretched across back of artwork.
  • NO sawtooth hangers, clip-style frames or keyhole mounts.
