Our color enlargers are for sale

As many of you know, there will be a renovation of the color darkroom area this summer and we have decided to sell the three color enlargers to interested students.

Each enlarger will be sold with its dedicated timer. No lens or any other accessory. Enlarger and timer only. Bidding will start at $300.

The bid sheet will be in the equipment room in the darkroom, hanging on the wall. Ask the monitor for it if you would like to place a bid. Bids must be written in ink.

Bidding begins today and ends at 4:00 on Wednesday May 4th. No sale is final until the darkroom renovation actually begins in May as we need to be sure it really will happen before selling the enlargers!!

If the highest bidder for any enlarger declines the purchase, the enlarger will be offered to the next highest bidder. We foresee the work to begin later in May, thus the enlarger will be likely available for pick up around that time. (Payment due with pick up.)

Film makers speak: Thrusday, 28 April 2011

Award-winning filmmakers Frank Popper, and colleague Lori Dowd will be speaking at the School of Communications Spring Speaker Series on Thursday, April 28 at 7:30pm in the Winnie Moore Auditorium

"Shaking The World: Haiti's Peanut Butter Miracle”

Some people aren't afraid to shake things up. American pediatrician Dr. Patricia Wolff runs a factory in Haiti that produces lifesaving peanut butter based food. Her group employs Haitians as an economic development strategy. But two days after the earthquake of 2010 shook the Haitian country, Wolff's Haitian manager calls a strike. He's dying of kidney disease, and has chosen this moment to assert control. The locals rally to him. The devoted but tenacious Wolff is outnumbered. Five years of work may dissolve in days.

This eye-opening, empowering documentary explores a possible solution for global problems and serves as a valuable addition to national and international conversations concerning innovation.

Popper and Dowd will show footage from their documentary-in-progress and discuss the story of life and death, rescue and development, and the business of doing good.
