Film makers speak: Thrusday, 28 April 2011

Award-winning filmmakers Frank Popper, and colleague Lori Dowd will be speaking at the School of Communications Spring Speaker Series on Thursday, April 28 at 7:30pm in the Winnie Moore Auditorium

"Shaking The World: Haiti's Peanut Butter Miracleā€¯

Some people aren't afraid to shake things up. American pediatrician Dr. Patricia Wolff runs a factory in Haiti that produces lifesaving peanut butter based food. Her group employs Haitians as an economic development strategy. But two days after the earthquake of 2010 shook the Haitian country, Wolff's Haitian manager calls a strike. He's dying of kidney disease, and has chosen this moment to assert control. The locals rally to him. The devoted but tenacious Wolff is outnumbered. Five years of work may dissolve in days.

This eye-opening, empowering documentary explores a possible solution for global problems and serves as a valuable addition to national and international conversations concerning innovation.

Popper and Dowd will show footage from their documentary-in-progress and discuss the story of life and death, rescue and development, and the business of doing good.
