The Citizen ShowMerriam Webster defines Citizen as: "1: an inhabitant of a city or town; especially: one entitled to the rights and privileges of a freeman; 2 a: a member of a state b: a native or naturalized person who owes allegiance to a government and is entitled to protection from it; 3: a civilian as distinguished from a specialized servant of the state."
What does it mean to you? How do you interpret "Citizen"? How do you express "Citizen"? Good Citizen wants to know. Good Citizen Art Gallery in St. Louis is issuing an open call for a Juried Exhibition titled The Citizen Show. The Juror for The Citizen Show will be Thad Duhigg, professor of sculpture and Chair of the Art and Design department at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.
Submission Guidelines
- All media will be considered
- Images of work should be on CD or DVD labeled with the artist's name. In Jpg format and be mac compatible.
- Video submissions should be standard DVD format
- Include current CV, title sheet, and artist statement
- Artist may submit up to three original works of art for consideration
- 2d work must be ready to hang No Aligator Hangers
- Sculpture cannot be more than 8'x 4' and weigh more than 500lbs.
- Pedestals, if needed should be supplied by the artist.
- No ceiling suspended work.
- * A $25 submission fee. Make checks payable to Good Citizen LLC.
- If you wish to have your submission returned please include a SASE.
- Artists are responsible for transporting artwork to and from the gallery prior to the exhibition and upon its conclusion.
Billboard Competition
Good Citizen will be accepting submissions for a Billboard Project to run concurrently with The Citizen Show. The Good Citizen Billboard is a 14'x48' illuminated billboard on top of the gallery. It is visible from over a mile away and presents artists with the opportunity to exhibit work in a unique format to a diverse population. Replacing the notion of buying and selling products through advertising with the notion of presenting artwork as a valuable accessible commodity within our culture.
Submission Guidelines for Billboard Competition
- * There will be a $15 submission fee for entry into the Billboard Competition, $10 if already submitting for The Citizen Show.
- Artists are limited to one submission
- Submissions should be in tiff or psd format sized 7" x 24" at 300 dpi on CD or DVD.
- Submissions accompanying The Citizen Show entries should be titled appropriately.
- If you wish to have your submission returned please include a SASE.
