Addendum to Underwood Application & Portfolio Submission

  • Full-time Webster University student who will be of junior or senior status in the 2020-2021 academic year working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Photography in the School of Communications.
  • Students home campus must be Webster Groves, MO.
  • A printed portfolio consisting of ten of your best photographs.
  • NOTE: (A portfolio on disk is not acceptable for this purpose unless the student is engaged in a full-time course of study at a location out of the United States.
  • In that exceptional case, the personal statement should include a paragraph describing the size and type of paper that the portfolio would have been printed on.

All types of photographic work will be accepted for consideration. A panel of outside judges selected by the University will review your work. The panel will consist of two to three professional photographers.

A personal statement addressing why you have chosen photography as your future career. What are your short-term and long-term objectives? The statement should be a typed, double-spaced essay of at least 150 words.

Photomontage tells a story by combining separate elements into a single composite image. By creating a moment that never existed, successful photomontage engages the imagination and stirs emotions, with images enhanced by the beauty of the details, colors, and textures in the combined imagery. 

For this call for entries, we seek photomontage images of any subject. All capture and post processes are welcome.

We are very pleased that Tom Chambers will jury this exhibition. Tom will select 40 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and another 40 for our Online Gallery. All 80 images will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog.

Nancy Anne Underwood graduated from Webster University in 1990 from the School of Communications. In 1993, her growing career in photography ended when she was tragically killed in a car accident. Her husband, David Underwood ’88, established the Nancy Anne Underwood Scholarship Fund to honor her memory and her love of photography.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicant must be a full-time Webster University student who will be of junior or senior status in the 2020-2021 academic year, working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Photography in the School of Communications.

• All applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

• All applicants must have a FAFSA on file in Webster’s financial aid office and be eligible to receive financial aid.

Student Innovation Competition: Deadline 31 October 2020

 HEY STUDENTS: The Reynolds Journalism Institute’s 2020-21 Student Innovation Competition at the Missouri School of Journalism asks college students to tackle engagement with a news organization. A student or student team will partner will the news organization of their choice to devise an engagement idea that is innovative to that organization. Applications detailing the team’s idea are due by Oct. 31, 2020. Then the chosen finalist teams will implement their idea at the partner news organization for 3 months before presenting the results on Feb 26, 2021 in front of a panel of judges and public on Zoom. First prizewinner gets $10,000
