Call For Art with a focus on the human element In an upcoming all media art exhibit titled "Presence II", Framations Art Gallery revisits a theme that focuses on the human element. Framations asks artists to enter work that visually includes people in any way either through portraiture, crowd scene, or though shadow or form. This exhibit will be on display December 9, 2016 - January 12, 2017 and entries will be due to Framations December 2 - 4. There will be an Opening Reception for the exhibit on December 9 from 6-8pm.  During the time of this exhibit, Framations will be hosting their 6th Annual Food Drive benefiting St. Louis Area Foodbank. Each week, an estimated 57,100 people rely upon the St. Louis Area Foodbank for food assistance. In 2009, the Foodbank distributed over 22 million pounds of food. The numbers are incredible. With tough economic times and the upcoming holidays, simply having adequate meals for yourself and your family means a lot. If you feel so moved, you are encouraged to bring your unopened, non-perishable food items and toiletries to Framations December 2, 2016 -  January 12, 2017.  Donating items for the food drive will earn artists a discount on their entry fee, and will also earn our customers a 15% discount off your total purchase.  The Juror for this exhibit will be Jamie Adams, an American painter, born and raised in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Still Life: The Ordinary Made Extraordinary   Juror: Kate Breakey Deadline: November 14, 2016  Exhibition prints due December 21, 2016  Gallery exhibition opens January 2, 2017 More information here © Kate Breakey Still life is a genre that allows the photographer time - to reflect, to organize, to compose, to light the subject as s/he sees fit. Still life allows the photographer to elevate the mundane, or, as Edward Weston put it, "... to photograph a rock, have it look like a rock, but be more than a rock." For Still Life: The Ordinary Made Extraordinary, we encourage fresh eyes brought to still life in all its forms, traditional to surreal.  All capture methods and processes are welcome. We are honored indeed that Kate Breakey will be the juror for The Ordinary Made Extratordinary. She will select 35 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and another 40 for our Online Gallery. All 75 images will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog.

2017 Alexia Grant Call for Entries The Alexia Foundation is pleased to announced its 2017 Alexia Grant Competition Call for Entries. We will begin accepting applications for our Professional and Student Grants on Jan. 2, 2017. The Alexia Foundation recognizes photographic bodies of work that may elevate understanding of the human condition, give light to what is not right and celebrate the best of humanity’s spirit. Deadlines for submissions are: Professional Grant – Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time Student Grants – Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time. The Professional Winner will receive a $20,000 grant to assist in the production of the proposed project. The First Place Student Winner will received tuition for one semester at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse, NY. As the visual program at Newhouse has continued to grow, we found it better to offer a richer student experience in Syracuse instead of at the SU London program which was the traditional location. The recipient of the First Place Student Grant may enroll in 9 to 12 credit hours of courses. It does not need to be part of a degree seeking sequence. We think of it as an opportunity to uniquely expand your story telling capabilities. The First Place Student Winner will also receive a $1000 cash grant to help produce the proposed body of work and $500 will be awarded to the student’s academic department. Up to four (4) Award of Excellence Winners will be named, at the judges' discretion. Award of Excellence winners will receive $1500 that may be applied toward tuition at Syracuse University or they may choose to attend one of the following workshops: a MediaStorm one-day workshop, a Momenta Photo Workshop or a Kalish Workshop, which is provided by The Gilka Grant. 2017 Alexia Grants

Judging will take place March 24 and 25, 2017 at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Winners will be announced on or around April 8, 2017. The Alexia Foundation, for more than 25 years, has helped visual storytellers give voice to those who go unheard, foster understanding and expose social injustice.
