Call for Work: Deadline Monday, 11 April 2011

Dinner in Ecuador © Harvey Stein 2009
DINNER
CALL FOR ENTRIES
National Competition for Photographs and Photo-Based Artwork At Umbrella Arts, New York City. Conceived and juried by Harvey Stein, Director of Photography at Umbrella Arts; photographer, educator, author.

ENTRY DEADLINE: April 11, 2011

SHOW DATES: May 19-June 18, 2011
LOCATION: Umbrella Arts, 317 East 9th Street, New York, NY 10003 www.umbrellaarts.com 212.505.7196

THE CALL: From casual meals to gourmet banquets, DINNER is part of our daily lives. Whether we celebrate it or just tolerate it, we can’t do without it. We plan greatly for it, or grin and bear it. It’s a ritual, whether eating on the run or at the dinner table, alone or with friends and family. We romance and socialize around it, worry about it, prepare for it, dread it, or try to ignore it. We study recipes, look through fancy restaurant windows in envy, are hungry for the next DINNER, wonder if we can afford it.

We want to see your photos of your DINNER (and/or others) and what you do when you are there. Whether your photographs are of a person eating a piece of pizza on the subway, a Thanksgiving or Passover feast, or a lonely individual at a diner, we are interested. From shopping for it, preparing it, indulging in it, or cleaning up afterward, make your photos as personal, interesting, sensual, fun, beautiful, startling as you can. No DINNER is out of bounds.

IF YOU DON’T HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS OF DINNER, YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO SHOOT FOR IT. THIS CAN BE A FUN AND INTERESTING SELF-ASSIGNMENT.

ELIGIBILITY: The exhibition is open to all photographers, any format, any camera, black & white or color, any style acceptable. All types of photography-based work may be entered, including digital, alternative processes, photo collage and montage. Maximum finished print size is 16”x20”. Maximum frame size is 20”x24”.
