Call for Work: Deadline 30 July 2010

The St. Louis Artists' Guild is seeking entries for the upcoming juried exhibition, S.O.S.

S.O.S. is an exhibition that highlights works that are political, subversive or guerrilla in nature. Submitted work for S.O.S. may be any media; the themes should address the current sociopolitical, economic, and environmental climates. Artwork may represent a project that is
meant to be wheatpasted, installation-based, viewed as an intervention, or film/video-based.

S.O.S. is juried by Robbie Conal. Robbie has gained national prominence as one of the country's premiere guerrilla street poster artists. For more information, visit www.robbieconal.com

S.O.S. will be on view at the St. Louis Artists' Guild galleries from September 5-October 29, 2010. This exhibition will be on display atthe Guild during the October ArtDTour, which means having work in this show will be a valuable opportunity to have your artwork seen by a lot of people!

Submissions for S.O.S. are due on July 30, 2010. Artists may submit up to three images on a CD, with an entry fee of $35. The entry fee is reduced to $7 per piece for members of the St. Louis Artists' Guild. Call for Work: Deadline 16 July 2010

Entry form now available for "Room With A View," our next juried exhibit.

ROOM WITH A VIEW
Artworks submitted for this juried exhibition should explore the subject of interiors and exteriors, both physical and emotional. Open to all styles & interpretations of theme.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES
Only entries postmarked or hand-delivered by July 16, 2010 will be considered.

EXHIBITION SPACE & DATES
Art Saint Louis main gallery in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Exhibition dates: September 13-October 21, 2010.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to artists 21 years of age and older living in the St. Louis, Missouri region or surrounding 200-mile radius. Chicago, IL and Kansas City, MO are not eligible.

SPECIFICATIONS
Artists may submit up to 2 original artworks in all styles & all media. NO ceiling installed work or works that rely on use of Internet for display. Work must be completed in the last two years (2008-2010). Size limits: artwork must fit through standard sized double doors. Final installation size not to exceed 10' high and/or 15' wide.

JURORS
St. Louis-based artists Julie Campbell, owner, Three Sinks Gallery, Webster Groves, MO, and Adam Watkins, instructor, East Central College, Union, MO.

JURYING
Judging is done by jpegs on CD only. No slides, e-mailed images, or photos. DVD or video only for film & performance. Limit 2 artworks. Limit 2 jpegs per artwork: 1 full view & either 1 detail or alternate view. Jpegs on ONE (1) CD that MUST be readable by both Mac & PC. Jpegs must be RGB Color, minimum 800 pixels. On entry form, for each artwork, list the artwork title, media, date (year completed), dimensions (final framed size, please), sale price (or, if NFS, then insurance value, which is 50% retail value) on the entry form. Title each jpeg file to correspond to image 1 or image 2 on the entry form using the following format: yourlastname.image1.jpg (i.e. smith.image1.jpg). Do NOT add an extra .jpg extension to image jpeg title. Include separate printed reference sheet with color or b/w thumbnail prints showing each artwork on the CD. Label CD with artist's full name and place in protective case for mailing. Submissions that do not comply with rules of entry will not be presented to the jurors. Only entries postmarked or hand-delivered by July 16, 2010 will be considered. Works selected for exhibition that are not accurately depicted by jpegs may be removed from the exhibit at Director's discretion.

SALES & INSURANCE
Artworks are insured at 50% of retail value during exhibit. Artist responsible for work in transit to & from ASL. All sales are through Art Saint Louis with 30% donation on work sold to ASL and 70% to artist. Artist responsible for delivery of sold work to buyer.

FRAMING & PRESENTATION
All work selected for exhibition must be ready to install. 2-d work must be framed (or approved alternative) and equipped with hanging wire stretched across back of artwork. Paintings may be gallery-wrapped or strip-framed. NO sawtooth hangers or clip frames. 3-d, oversized or installation works must be installed by artist under direction of ASL Gallery Director. Artists with video or film are required to provide all equipment necessary to present the artwork. Specific installation requirements for any artwork must be resolved in advance with directions/devices provided by artist. Art Saint Louis reserves the right to install accepted works in a manner deemed necessary for a well-designed exhibition or for security purposes.

AWARDS & SALES
Five non-cash Awards of Excellence will be selected by the jurors for this exhibit. Award recipients will be eligible for our "Honor Awards 2011" exhibit (April-May 2011), curated by Marilu Knode, Executive Director, Laumeier Sculpture Park, St. Louis, MO.

ENTRY FEE
Entry fee is non-refundable. $20/current Art Saint Louis members; $30/non-members; $5 reduced entry fee with new $50 Artist or $30 Student level membership (membership forms available on our website). Payable to Art Saint Louis. Submit fee with entry form, CD, image reference sheet, & SASE (for return of CD). Entry fee can be paid online via PayPal through our website.

DEADLINE
The deadline for submitting entries for this exhibit is July 16, 2010. This is a postmark deadline. We will only accept hand-delivered entries until 5 p.m. July 16 or any time before then during our Gallery hours: M-F 10-5, Sat. 10-4. Closed Sundays. Closed June 27-July 11. We suggest that you get your entry in the mail before the postmark deadline. We cannot accept any hand-delivered entries after 5 p.m July 16. Postmarked entries with the July 16 date but not received by Art Saint Louis by July 20 will be returned to artists unprocessed.

VOLUNTEERING
All exhibiting artists are required to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours (per artwork selected) of time and/or work to the production of this exhibit; or artists may buy-out their volunteer time at $5/hour.

PUBLICITY
Art Saint Louis reserves the right to photograph all exhibited works for catalog, web, educational and publicity purposes.

DELIVERY & PICK-UP
Artworks juried into exhibition are to be hand-delivered by artist or representative to Art Saint Louis on August 27-28, 2010, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and picked-up at the conclusion of the show, October 22-23, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Exhibited artworks may not be removed from ASL prior to 10 a.m. October 22. ALL works must be removed from Gallery by 4 p.m. October 23, 2010.

shots Magazine: Deadline 31 July 2010

shots is proud to announce the fifth annual competition for photography students worldwide. The theme of this years competition is FIRST IMPRESSION.

We are looking for a short narrative sequence of original work (3-10 images) that responds to, and reflects this theme in an original and dynamic way.

This is a unique opportunity for current and graduating photography students. Each year, shots publishes a substantial Directory a major resource for international brands and the creative industries that serve them. It is bought, and used all year by creative directors and art buyers worldwide.

Sixty finalists will be chosen from the competition entry; and from those finalists, ten outstanding submissions, including three runners-up and an overall winner, will be announced in November 2010. All 60 finalists will be given space in the Directory to present their work along with contact details. One image from the winning entry will feature on the cover. The overall winner will also receive a cash prize of 500. Selected runners-up will be given additional full-page exposure throughout the book. All finalists work will feature in an online exhibition when the shots 2011 Directory is published in December 2010.

The competition is open to all current photography students. Entry is free. The closing date for entries is Saturday 31 July 2010. The competition will be judged by a professional team from the advertising and photography community, and shots.

All images will be submitted digitally by uploading to the shots site (details to follow). Images may be colour or b/w. The 60 shortlisted entrants will be asked after the submission deadline to submit high-res versions, on which final judging will be based. The judges will be looking for technical excellence as well as an imaginative and original interpretation of the chosen theme. Only unpublished work will be considered.
