Call for Work: Deadline 15 August 2008
Thomas Jefferson School Visual Arts Gallery is accepting proposals for 2008-2009 The Gallery is a 20 x 30 ft. space in the heart of the school, frequented by students, faculty, and visitors on a daily basis. The off-white walls, terrazzo floor, and gallery lighting create an appropriate space for wall hangings as well as three-dimensional works (pedestals are available). The park-like campus is located on 20 acres in suburban St. Louis, and is conducive to outdoor sculptures. The
school welcomes proposals for work either inside the Gallery or on the grounds. The school supports emerging artists as well as the work of career artists.
The Gallery will provide publicity for the show with an announcement card, media contact for the exhibition, and an artist’s reception in conjunction with the opening of the show.
Applicants must be practicing artists (evident in the submitted resume), willing to meet the schedule for installation, and willing to talk with students about the installation.
To apply, send a letter of interest, a CD of recent work, and a description of proposal to Thomas Jefferson School Gallery for Visual Arts, Artists 2009, 4100 S. Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis MO. 63127. Label each CD with your name and other identifying data. The CD script should include title, media, dimensions, date, and price if applicable. We also request a current resume. Send SASE for return of CD only (all other materials will not be returned). If you would like acknowledgment of receipt of materials, please send a self-addressed, stamped postcard. Thomas Jefferson School is not responsible for CDs; please do not send originals.
An invitation to show in the Gallery or grounds will be made by the Visual Arts Committee, composed of professional artists, educators, art patrons, and students. The committee meets a minimum of three times a year.
The Gallery accepts applications on an ongoing basis, but the deadline for applications for the 2009 season is August 15, 2008. All applications must be postmarked by August 15. You may also deliver your application by hand before 3:30 pm on August 15.
Thomas Jefferson School is a coeducational boarding and day school for U.S. and international students in grades seven through twelve. The school offers a world-class academic program (all Advanced Placement by senior year), a great student-teacher ratio (6:1), classes with emphasis on discussion, and freedom for students to plan their own time.
