Announcing The Alexia 2018 Call for Entries

The Alexia Foundation is pleased to announce that we will begin accepting entries for The Alexia 2018 Grants on Jan. 7, 2018. The Alexia Foundation awards grants to student and professional visual journalists to help them produce projects that inspire change by addressing topics that are socially significant.

“If you’re producing work that makes a difference, that reveals the little known, that touches lives in a way that elevates our perceptions and understanding, then you are the perfect applicant for an Alexia Grant,” says Syracuse University Alexia Chair and Grant Administrator Mike Davis. “All the more so if your efforts embolden others to bring about change for the better.”

The deadline for The Alexia Professional Grant is Feb. 1, 2018 at midnight. The deadline for The Alexia Student Grants is March 1, 2018 at midnight.

The winner of The Alexia Professional Grant will receive a $20,000 grant for the production of his or her proposed project.

The recipient of The Alexia First Place Student Grant will receive tuition for one semester at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. The award is the equivalent to a semester-long fellowship or residency at Syracuse University where the winner will be able to take three classes, work on projects and further develop skills while receiving feedback and inspiration from a world class visual institution.

The First Place winner will also receive a $1,000 cash grant to produce the proposed body of work, and $500 will be awarded to that student’s academic department.

Up to four Award of Excellence winners will be named. Each will receive $1,500 to be applied toward tuition at Syracuse University or tuition to attend one either a MediaStorm One-Day Masterclass, a Momenta Photo Workshop or The Kalish Workshop. The Kalish is provided by The Gilka Grant.

The Alexia Award of Excellence winners will also be awarded a $500 cash grant to help produce their proposed projects.

More information about how to submit your entry and what to submit can be found here: The Alexia 2018 Grants.

Judging will take place March 23 and 24, 2018 at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Winners will be announced in early April.
