Call for Architectural Photos: Deadline 6 November 2017

Open Call for Emerging Photographers
Architecture in Focus: Finding Inspiration from Erich Mendelsohn

Architecture in Focus: Finding Inspiration from Erich Mendelsohn is a juried visual art exhibition featuring works of photography by Emerging or Young Artists, alongside selected professional work, inspired by COCA’s historic mid-century modernist building. Designed by Erich Mendelsohn as the B’nai Amoona Synagogue, the building was the storied architect’s first American building. It has been COCA’s home since 1977.

The strikingly innovative design was the first modernist approach to synagogue architecture in the United States. Mendelsohn’s progressive designs, matched with Millstone Bangert, Inc.’s construction expertise, turned the architect’s vision for the synagogue into reality. The northwest corner of Trinity and Washington Avenues in University City offers an impressive view of the building’s signature parabolic roof.

All explorations and interpretations of the theme are invited.

Eligibility: Open to Emerging or Young Artists 16-24 years of age living in the St. Louis, Missouri region and surrounding 50-mile radius.

Entry Deadline: The deadline to submit works for this exhibit: Monday, November 6, 2017 (11:59 CST). There is no fee. Entries for this exhibition are accepted online only at artopencall@cocastl.org

Notification: Exhibition artists will be notified via email by Friday, November 17, 2017.
