Call for Work: Deadline 15 October 2010
JACOBY ARTS CENTER'S CALL FOR ENTRY
Fact and Fiction: The State of Contemporary Photography
A juried exhibition exploring the relationship of the objective and subjective characteristics of the photographic medium.
From the outset, beginning in the mid 19th century, photographers have manipulated visual information in their pictures both prior to and after the shutter has been released. The analogical or "low tech" strategies were employed in work ranging from the allegorical to war journalism in order to achieve the desired messages. Today photographs are being re-contextualized (this includes the use of text), digitally manipulated, and composited with relative ease, resulting in a new image that often communicates a distinctly different message than the original.
This exhibition is interested in photographic work that explores meaning through manipulation, either analogical or digital. All photographic formats and media are acceptable.
JUROR: Steven Brown is a photographer/artist who often explores theoretical and historical issues in his work. He is an Associate Professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he heads the photography area of the Department of Art and Design.
