Portraiture in Perspective: Saturday, 3 February 2007

Panel Discussion: Portraiture in Perspective
Join us for a discussion that will bring together representatives from various St. Louis art institutions that are currently displaying portraits in their galleries. Each of the speakers will address the subject of portraiture from the unique perspective of his or her individual institution.

The program will take place this Saturday, February 3rd from 2-5pm in the Saint Louis Art Museum auditorium and will include topics such as the tradition of portraiture, portraiture and identity, portraits as artifacts and portraits as an artistic statement.

The afternoon will conclude with a general discussion, moderated by John Klein, Visiting Associate Professor, Department of Art History and Archaeology, Washington University in St. Louis and Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art, University of Missouri-Columbia.

Speakers in the panel will include:
Robert R. Archibald, President & CEO, Missouri Historical Society
Charlotte Eyerman, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Saint Louis Art Museum
Catharina Manchanda, Curator, Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Washington University in St. Louis
Judith Mann, Curator of Early European Art, Saint Louis Art Museum
Matthias Waschek, Director, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts
