Changing Ideas
I've just learned of a group that works to link photographers to nonprofits for the benefit of both. While they are not currently accepting applications, this might be something to keep an eye on if their purpose interests you.
Changing Ideas was established by David Graham who, as a consequence of his 23 year old son becoming paralysed in a diving accident, changed careers and undertook an MA in photojournalism. With his business background he recognised that many concerned organizations and individuals were frequently unable to successfully realise their humanitarian projects because they lacked essential business skills and other resources. He saw there was a gap in the humanitarian sector for an organization that brought concerned organizations and individuals together within a framework that provided the necessary skills to turn their ideas into reality.
We have seen that many photojournalists want to make a difference but don't know how and many charities also fail to fully achieve their humanitarian objectives. Our experience has shown that change can be effectively achieved by applying business thinking combined with visual imagery to humanitarian campaigns.
Essentially this charity operates in a similar way to an incubator within the business community. We provide support that includes media expertise, contacts and finance to ensure that selected humanitarian projects are more likely to fulfill their potential and effect tangible and measurable change.
We assist charities and other individuals, including photographers and journalists, by providing effective, practical and pragmatic support to achieve lasting, effective and above all measurable change.
