ONE MORE WEEK TO SUBMIT WORK for
"Tranquility" juried exhibit
Entry Deadline: Friday, April 17, 2015

** Free entry AND honorarium paid to all accepted artists **

TRANQUILITY
It is widely recognized that the arts can have a profound impact on health and healing. Art can infiltrate the challenging hospital environment with offerings of beauty, spirituality, humor and celebration. Art Saint Louis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital seek original works of visual art for two consecutive group exhibitions, beginning with the "Joy," exhibition in January 2015, and continuing with the "Tranquility" exhibition in June 2015.

Artworks submitted for the "Tranquility" multi-media juried exhibit should embody, illustrate or otherwise express concepts or imagery that evokes ideas of serenity, peace, stillness, resolve, or contentment. The purpose of the exhibit is to meet program goals to (1) create an aesthetically rich, uplifting experience for patients, families and staff caregivers, and (2) enliven and elevate the emotional and intellectual atmosphere of the hospital environment.

EXHIBITION SPACE & DATES
This group exhibition will be presented in the hallway adjacent to the South lobby of the main campus of Barnes-Jewish Hospital off of Kingshighway in St. Louis, MO. Exhibition dates: June 17-October 14, 2015. The exhibition will feature approximately 15-16 artworks total.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to artists 21 years of age and older living in the St. Louis, Missouri region and surrounding 200-mile radius. Those residing beyond 200 miles are not eligible. Chicago, IL and Kansas City, MO are not eligible

The deadline to submit works for this exhibit is 11:59 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015. We encourage you to send your entry in before the deadline. No late entries will be accepted.

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Two-dimensional wall-displayed flat artworks only.
  • Regardless of media, ALL artworks accepted for this exhibit must be framed and displayed behind glass or plexi. This includes paintings on canvas. This includes everything, every media. There are no exceptions to this requirement. Paintings, fiber art, drawings, photographs, prints, weavings, quilts, works on canvas--in whatever media in which you work--if accepted for the exhibition, your artwork must be framed and placed under plexiglas or glass.
  • No sculpture.
  • Limit 3 (three) original artworks in all styles, techniques & media* (*as long as the work, if accepted, is framed & placed under plexi or glass).
  • Art Saint Louis reserves the right to affix artworks with security hardware if and as deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the artworks.
  • No clip-style frames. No sawtooth hangers. No keyhole style frames.
  • SIZE LIMITS: Final installation size, including frame, not to exceed 48" wide or 36" high/tall.

  • Artworks must be completed between 2012 and 2015. Works created before 2012 will not be considered.

THE JURYING PROCESS
The method by which ALL exhibitions are juried at Art Saint Louis is always a fair and blind (anonymous) process. What this means is that at no time before or during the jurying process do our Jurors know the names of entering artists. The Jurors are presented all entrants' JPEGs in an anonymous digital image presentation and the only information provided to them pertains to the artwork and includes the following: artwork title, year, media, dimensions, and method of presentation (displayed on the wall, sits on a pedestal). Jurors are never shown the names of any artists. All artworks that you submit for jurying are presented one after the other in the presentation that the jurors view. So, if you are artist #25, your artworks/entries are in the presentation after artist #24 and before artist #26. From the jurying presentation and information provided about the artworks, the jurors make their selections for the final exhibit. Artwork selection decisions are in part based on a set of specific jurying instructions & criteria relating to the theme of the exhibit as well as specific conditions & rules of the Gallery. For non-thematic exhibitions, a well-rounded exhibit is based on the Jurors' aesthetics along with general exhibition criteria established for all exhibits by Art Saint Louis' Artistic Director. This is a blind process and at no time are the Jurors shown entrants' names, and oftentimes they do not even see names for selected artists until they arrive to the Gallery to view the final exhibit on the Gallery walls. Ours is a fair jurying process.

There is NO ENTRY FEE to submit works for jurying for this exhibit. Artists still must submit all other materials (entry form, JPEGs properly titled) and comply with the rules of entry in order to have work considered for this exhibit.
