About International Education Week

IEW is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

Start the week with a visual tour of the world! Stop by the Small Wall Gallery to enjoy photos from both the Study Abroad Photo Contest and the Global Photo Contest.  Winning photos along with a selection of additional entries from both contests are included in the exhibit.  Take a new view on the world through the eyes of our study abroad and international student travelers! Thinking about taking a Walker Global Hybrid Course but don’t have a passport? Have a trip planned to China and need a visa? Stop by the Passport Picture Booth in the Atrium of our beautiful new East Academic Building to get your official passport-sized pictures taken for free. Study Abroad Pecha Kucha and International Education Expo

Share the global vision and mission of our institution and hear more about what makes Webster University set a distinct standard for international education.

Study abroad alumni and visiting students from our international campuses will captivate you with the rapid pace of a visual arts presentation on their experiences overseas. Pecha Kucha draws its name from the Japanese word for the sound of “chit chat” and is based on a rapid pace, engaging presentation style that is sure to captivate. Enjoy images of student travels and hear from students about their experiences studying abroad, whether abroad means Europe, Mexico, Asia or here in St. Louis. Election Night Party 2012

Watch global citizenship in action as the community and our students join together to monitor Presidential and local election results.   The University Center will be transformed into a celebration of participatory democracy with food, games, a photo booth and election night coverage. Local politicians will attend throughout the night to share their perspectives as results come in from media sources.  Cosponsored by: the Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs, Campus Activities, Holden Public Policy Forum and Office of Residential Life

Cup of Culture: Amanda Koster “Imagine What You Can Do!”                 Sunnen Lounge

Amanda Koster is an internationally acclaimed photographer with a passion for finding and sharing stories of real people, human rights, cultural diversity and global equality. She asks you to ‘Imagine What You Can Do’ with the tools at your disposal to make a difference in peoples’ lives. Amanda shares examples of amazing projects she discovered in developing countries and the essays, videos, photography, and fund-raising that she helps facilitate. She will challenge you to create your own projects and get out there using social media and other resources at your disposal.

Experience China without leaving St. Louis!  Join the Confucius Institute and the Office of Study Abroad to learn about Webster educational programs in and about China.   Session includes a Chinese Lion Dance, information, presentations and personal discussions with students, staff and faculty. Light Chinese fare will be served, and door prizes given away.

International Drum Festival                                                                                    Sunnen Lounge
7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Celebrate the grand finale of International Education Week with drum and dance performances from around the world as the MCISA welcomes guest artists from diverse traditions to celebrate world music. We encourage you to learn new drum and dance techniques and join our celebration! Enjoy free food, a photo booth and a Japanese drum workshop by St. Louis Osuwa Takio at 8:45 pm. Performances feature local artists Afriky Lolo, Joia and St. Louis Osuwa Taiko.
