Photo internship with Missouri State Parks
Missouri State Parks is looking for three passionate, committed photographers to spend their summer as paid interns traveling around the state and taking photographs of some of the nation’s finest state parks. This is part of the State Parks Youth Corps program. You might find yourself spending three days exploring wildflowers and hiking trails at St. Francois State Park in the southeastern part or capturing the beauty of a bison herd at sunset at Prairie State Park in the southwest. A Monday might find you camping at a shady site at Crowder State Park in northwestern Missouri and a Wednesday might find you shooting sweeping overlooks of the Mississippi River at Trail of Tears State Park in the Bootheel or doing art shots of a meteor shower at Hawn State Park south of St. Louis.
You’ll work with talented photographers and editors and have the opportunity to get deep into subjects, as well trying out new techniques and approaches. Your work will be featured in a number of places including maps, visitor guides, the web and advertisements.
If you love photography and the outdoors, this is a tremendous opportunity.
What you need:
- Be between the ages of 17-23
- Your own gear (we’re a Nikon shop, by the way, but don’t let that stop you)
- A way to get to Jefferson City, where you’ll be based
- A track record of being responsible and a self-starter, as well as being able to think on your feet
- A positive attitude
- Transportation and lodging when you’re on the road
- A salary
- A week of intensive photo bootcamp with our department photographers
- The opportunity to shoot diverse subjects every day in settings that are unmatched in their beauty
Send a cover letter, resume and links to a portfolio to Judd Slivka at the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The portfolio should include at least one themed group of photos or one of group of photos telling a single story.
