CAREER PLANNING FOR ARTISTS
Monday, Oct. 3 (7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.)
This hands-on workshop, presented with thanks to our colleagues at Springboard for the Arts in St. Paul, will help you examine your career, both professionally and artistically. You’ll learn how to chart a “career path” that incorporates specific strategies and how to put your plan into action. Instructors: Susan Bostwick, artist; and Sue Greenberg, VLAA executive director
MONEY & MORE
Monday, Oct. 19 (7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.)
Need money? Want to grow your arts business? Learn about the micro-loan program sponsored by Justine Petersen Housing and plans for The Railway Exchange building incubator spaces. We’ll also explain “fiscal sponsorship,” which could allow you to access funding opportunities that are usually restricted to tax-exempt organizations. Speakers: Robert Boyle, CEO, and Gaelen Gondolfi, communications officer, Justine Petersen Housing; Kevin Farrell, senior director, Economic and Housing Development, The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis; and Sue Greenberg, VLAA
MARKETING & PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION
Monday, Oct. 24 (7:00 to 9:30 p.m.)
Learn how to market your art with the same intensity you use to create it. We’ll discuss promotional materials and help you identify the right audience, position yourself (including pricing), set priorities and stop procrastinating. Instructors: Kate Poss, Circus Flora, and Sue Greenberg, VLAA
PUBLIC SPEAKING FOR ARTISTS
Monday, Nov. 7 (7:00 to 9:30 p.m.)
Artists often speak on panels, participate in Q&A sessions, interact with potential clients and face the media. Nervous about public speaking? Clam up in front of a microphone? This workshop will teach you some basic strategies and techniques that will give you the confidence to speak about your work in front of any audience, large or small. Our dynamic instructor is Tripp Frohlichstein, president, MediaMasters, Inc.
$10 in advance; $15 at the door
Business Edge workshops are held in the Regional Arts Commission's building, 6128 Delmar, across from the Pageant.
