VLAA "Business Sense" seminars

VLAA CONTINUES “BUSINESS EDGE” SEMINAR SERIES FOR ARTISTS

St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts (VLAA)’s Business Edge seminar series for individual artists of all disciplines continues in March and April with these offerings:

Anatomy of a Contract (Mar. 5) Attorneys James W. Reeves and Kim Kirn will cover the basics, including negotiation, the elements of a valid contract, when you should consult a lawyer, and the benefits of mediation as a dispute resolution tool.

Artist-Gallery Contracts (Mar. 19) Attorney Cheryl D.S. Walker will walk artists through VLAA’s model artist-gallery consignment contract and, with special guests Philip Slein and Tim Liddy, will offer suggestions that will help participants approach their gallery relationships with good business sense.

Copyright Clinic (Apr. 16) Here’s a chance to learns the basics. Then you'll have an opportunity to spend 15 minutes talking to a volunteer lawyer. Consultations will be scheduled in person that evening and may not be available if you do not register in advance.

Licensing Art and Design (Apr. 30) While not every everyone creates artwork that is suitable for licensing, many fine artists, illustrators, craftspeople and photographers have entered into profitable licensing partnerships with merchandisers. Learn about this lucrative sales opportunity from expert, Gregory Hoffman, former chief executive of Mary Engelbreit Enterprises Inc.

The seminars will be held in the Regional Arts Commission’s building, 6128 Delmar, which is located across the street from the Pageant and just west of the Delmar MetroLink station.
