The Wellcome Photography Prize 2021
will award £26,000 to photographers covering three of the most crucial
health issues of this century: Managing Mental Health, Fighting
Infections, Health in a Heating World. Professional, amateur, and
student photographers around the world may submit single images or
series of images for free through January 18th, 2021.
“Winning the Wellcome Photography Prize has been one of
the most defining moments of my career to date,” the 2019 Wellcome
Photography Prize winner Erin Lefevre says. “The prize helped to
financially support me during a very crucial time in my career, and
after winning the prize, my work was introduced to a brand new
international audience.
“Photography has the power to touch people’s hearts and
promote awareness in a way that no other medium can. When covering
stories related to health, human rights, politics, etc., it’s extremely
important to have organizations like Wellcome that genuinely want to
support photographers who are doing this kind of work for the right
reasons.”
As part of this year’s awards, Wellcome, one of the
world’s leading researched-based charities, will offer £10,000 each to
one series and single image winner, with £1,000 going to six nominees
across the three categories.
The
competition will culminate in an awards ceremony and exhibition in
London, accompanied by international press coverage.
