Call for Work: Deadline 31 October 2020
HUMAN TOUCH
Art Saint Louis presents "Human Touch," an all media juried visual art exhibition to be featured entirely and exclusively online on the Art Saint Louis website, in a virtual gallery, and on our social media platforms.
The exhibition will feature original visual artworks in all media created during 2020 that focus on human touch and close contact, including what we are missing, craving and unable to experience due to social distancing and health risks, as well as the fear involved with potentially dangerous contact.
For countless families and individuals across the world, the pandemic has cut off vital, visceral expressions of solidarity and empathy at a time when such expressions are most needed. Human touch, an irreplaceable cornerstone in every culture and people group, has gone missing, giving way to sterile alternatives, virtual contact and social distancing. Grandparents aren't able to hug their grandchildren, friends aren't able to embrace, cohorts can’t shake hands, we live our public lives withdrawn and masked. With this call for entries we ask our region’s artists: How has human touch and/or its absence affected you, your view of the world, your loved ones and friends? What do you see in this widespread shift in human behavior today, and how do you envision its aftereffects?
Please consider this theme and expand upon it via visual art as you relate to the concept. We invite all explorations and interpretations of our theme and encourage works in all visual art media, styles and techniques.
