Whether created using natural light, one light, two lights, or three+ lights, Rangefinder wants to see your best images that show the versatility of light, along with a description of the lighting setup used to achieve the shot. Last year’s winner, Bill Gekas, placed a softbox to the left of the camera and in front of his subject, then fired a speed light through a window cucoloris, also to the left, to create his stunning image, “Laundrette.” Beautiful lighting is a big component of Gekas’ images, but isn’t the only thread that ties his photos together: Gekas’ work is largely influenced by old master painters, and primarily portrays his young daughter as a protagonist in a storytelling scene—a “universal child.” Because of his unique stylistic approach, Gekas’ work has been published in a variety of major media outlets, including ABC News, BBC, NBC Today and The Daily Mail, to name a few.

How do YOU showcase and utilize light in your images? Show us by entering now at www.seeingthelightcontest.com.
