The
Curator FIne-Art Awards aims to enrich the lives of undiscovered fine-art
photographers, producing a group show for six artists and an award of $3,500
cash to one artist to fund his or her work.
Last year's gallery show for
The Curator showcased intriguing concepts across the board.
Alexander Hadjidakis, winner of the Student Work category, presented his
series "Other," in which he explored the concept of a post-racial
world and the homogeneity of humankind. The mixed media project presents two
types of composites: digital portraits created from multiple images, each
shot by Hadjidakis (pictured left), alongside ambrotypes that combine
historical images from the Library of Congress with his own imagery (pictured
right). Hadjidakis displays them together to reinforce each subject's shared
heritage and to connect the past, present and suppositional future.
