Call for Work: Deadline 18 October 2013
Entry form now available for "Pictorialist" juried exhibit
Jurors: Jennifer Silverberg & John Nagel
Deadline to enter: October 18, 2013
Pictorialist is an all media exhibit designed to revisit the Pictorialism movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries through innovative use of contemporary methods and technologies, including, but not limited to, cell phones, iPads, digital notepads and similar devices. Traditional media methods, drawing their inspiration from the 21st Century technologies, are also invited to add their voices to the exhibit.
Pictorialism-a style where manipulation of typically "straight" photographic materials were incorporated to create new, more expressive, painterly, altered interpretations-was a way of projecting an emotional intent into the viewer's realm of imagination. This exhibit encourages all artists to employ their own methods, techniques, tools, imaginations, and personal styles to technology-inspired art.
The exhibit is combines multiple concepts taken from the Pictorialism movement and all it represented to that time period with the current explosion of image-making devices such as cell phone cameras, iPads, computer-generated methodologies and how they impact every aspect of current art trends, not just photography, but every genre & media. The only limitation on how artists approach their interpretation of this exhibit is their own imaginations. Whether a painter, sculptor, fiber artist, photographer, or any of the myriad methods styles of art being created, artists are encouraged to consider how your own vision can be presented in a "Pictorialist" manner, how you can communicate your vision of Pictorialism in a fresh new way.

The Jurors are presented all entrants' JPEGs in an anonymous digital image presentation and the only information provided to them about the artwork is the following: artwork title, year, media, dimensions & method of presentation (i.e. wall, pedestal, floor). Jurors are never shown the names of any artists. Both artworks that you submit for jurying are presented one after the other in the presentation the jurors view. So, if you are artist #25, your two entries are in the presentation after artist #24 and before artist #26. From the jurying presentation and info provided about the artworks, the jurors make their selections for the final exhibit. Artwork selection decisions are in part based on a set of specific jurying instructions & criteria relating to the theme of the exhibit as well as specific conditions & rules of the Gallery.
