New exhibit explores the animal kingdom

Call For Art that explores the full range of the animal kingdom

Whether you enjoy painting the scenes of a safari or take macro shots of dragonflies, a new call for entry might be what you are looking for. Framations Art Gallery in St. Charles is asking artists to use animals as their subjects matter in their upcoming exhibit "All Things Wild". This will be an all media exhibit of work focusing on the animal kingdom, from the teeny tiny to the great and mighty.

Framations offers artists and viewers alike the opportunity to suggest exhibit themes they would like to see brought to life. Through their website, these ideas can be shared for future exhibits. According to co-owner Sarah Merideth, this theme has been requested repeatedly. "We are often asked to do a wildlife exhibit. But I think when people hear wildlife for an art exhibit they focus in on either domesticated animals or certain types of woodland creatures, like deer and moose. We wanted to be clear that this exhibit spans the full range, anything at all included in the animal kingdom." With this thought in mind, the gallery anticipates a wonderful variety of work to be entered.

The exhibit will be on display July 15 - Aug 25, 2016 and entries will be due to Framations July 8 & 9: 10-6 and July 10: 12-5.

The Juror for this exhibit will be Lisa Ober. Lisa is a portrait and still life painter, workshop teacher, and owner of OA Gallery in St. Louis, MO.

STUDIO ALTIUS BREW-HA-HA, WHERE GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY MEETS GREAT PARTY! It has been over three years since our last Brew-Ha-Ha...you thought the great tradition of awesomeness at Studio Altius was over. Well, think again, my friend! Turn Studio Altius into your own personal photography playground! Studio space, state of the art equipment, beautiful and talented models, makeup artists, stylists, and fellow photographers come together to provide an evening of fun, networking, and open shooting photography. This will be a great opportunity to hone your skills, try out our space and some new equipment, and learn a few tips from your colleagues! Schiller's will be providing a truckload of sweet equipment and gear for you to try out, come out and have some fun!

We do not have a theme for this event, instead we will have a variety of photoshoot areas set up, from headshots to boudoir to fantasy...options abound! We have a large list of models and makeup artists booked for this event that you will not want to miss.

Don't miss the opportunity to submit artwork for Art Saint Louis' "Mix Tape"  juried exhibit  Entry deadline: July 7, 2016    MIX TAPE " Mix Tape" juried visual art exhibition featuring artworks that are about, or influenced by, all genres of music or that are about/or influenced by musicians. Artworks can be about music of any genre--from classical to classic rock, country to jazz, hip hop to folk. Artworks might also be about, or influenced by, musicians--from Clara Schumann to Beyoncé, Johannes Brahms to The Clash--anyone who has written a score, recorded a song, made music of any style/kind. The resulting art exhibition will be a visual mix tape. All explorations of this theme are invited. Artworks in all media, techniques and styles are encouraged. Cat Pick is a fixture of the St. Louis music community with her on-air program, Emotional Rescue, on KDHX 88.1 FM. She has been with with station since 1989. Cat is a music writer and co-creator of the Married With Music podcast. She is also an artist and owner of TinyMontgomery and has been creating original designs and selling at area festivals and shows since 2005. Eddie Silva is External Affairs and Publications Manager for the St. Louis Symphony, where he has worked since 2003. Silva interviews musicians for broadcast on St. Louis Public Radio, writes the STL Symphony Blog and Playbill, and collaborates with arts and media organizations including Carnegie Hall, amongst other projects. Prior to joining SLSO, Eddie was Arts & Culture writer for Riverfront Times, where his writing included fine art, architecture, and music, as well as investigative reporting and criticism. Works not previously exhibited in any exhibit in Art Saint Louis Gallery. NO ceiling installed work, this includes installation works. NO artworks that sit directly on Gallery floor. 2-d works must be framed or, if not framed, pre-approved presentation. Works on canvas may be framed, strip-framed or gallery-wrapped. Size limits: Final installation size on 2-d work not to exceed 6' (72") WIDE or 7' (84") HIGH/TALL, including frame. Size limit applies to all media. Larger sculptures, oversized 2-d work or installation works must be installed by artist under direction of Art Saint Louis Artistic Director. We are only able to exhibit pedestal-displayed or wall-hung sculpture--no ceiling installed work and no artworks that sit directly on the Gallery floor. Artist must provide all equipment necessary to present video or artwork requiring electricity, incl. cords, adapters, DVD player, monitor, etc. JURYING & IMAGE REQUIREMENTS  Judging is done by JPEGs online only at CallForEntry.org. LIMIT: 3 artworks. The image limit reads 6, but this allows for a detail or alternate view for each artwork submitted. Do not exceed 3 artworks total or you will be disqualified. Limit 2 JPEGs per artwork: 1 full view is required and you may also submit (not required) either 1 detail OR 1 alternate view. IMPORTANT: IF you submit more than 2 images per artwork, the Jurors will NOT be shown your additional images. THE JURYING PROCESS The method by which ALL exhibitions are juried at Art Saint Louis is always a fair and blind (anonymous) process. What this means is that at no time before or during the jurying process do our Jurors know the names of entering artists. The Jurors are presented all entrants' JPEGs in an anonymous digital image presentation and the only information provided to them pertains to the artwork and includes the following: artwork title, year, media, dimensions, and method of presentation (displayed on the wall, sits on a pedestal). Jurors are never shown the names of any artists. All artworks that you submit for jurying are presented one after the other in the presentation that the jurors view. So, if you are artist #25, your artworks/entries are in the presentation after artist #24 and before artist #26. From the jurying presentation and information provided about the artworks, the jurors make their selections for the final exhibit. Artwork selection decisions are in part based on a set of specific jurying instructions & criteria relating to the theme of the exhibit as well as specific conditions & rules of the Gallery. For non-thematic exhibitions, a well-rounded exhibit is based on the Jurors' aesthetics along with general exhibition criteria established for all exhibits by Art Saint Louis' Artistic Director. This is a blind and FAIR process and at no time are the Jurors shown entrants' names, and oftentimes they do not even see names for selected artists until they arrive to the Gallery to view the final exhibit on the Gallery walls. Ours is a fair jurying process. SALES & INSURANCE All artworks must either have a sale price or be marked Not for Sale (NFS). No works marked POR (price on request) will be accepted. Artist's sale prices listed with original entry submitted for jurying may not be changed after entry deadline (May 12, 2016). All sales are through Art Saint Louis with 30% donation/commission on work sold to ASL and 70% to artist. Sale price includes Art Saint Louis' commission. Artist responsible for delivery of sold work to buyer at end of exhibit. Artworks are insured at 50% of retail value during exhibit. Artist responsible for work in transit to/from ASL.  FRAMING & FINAL PRESENTATION  All work selected for exhibit must be delivered to Gallery ready to install. 2-d work must be framed & equipped with hanging wire stretched across back of artwork. NO sawtooth hangers, clip-style frames or keyhole mounts. French Cleat mounts okay. Works on canvas may be framed, strip-framed or gallery-wrapped. 2-d works must be framed or, if not framed, pre-approved presentation. NO works that are nailed, pinned, tacked, taped, velcroed, painted on, glued, adhered, or affixed directly to/on Gallery walls. No loose plexi that is clipped or nailed to wall. Oversized, heavy, or installation work must be installed by artist under direction of Artistic Director. Video must be presented on min. 9" monitor; monitor weight not to exceed 20 lbs. Artworks requiring electricity: Artist must provide all cords, adapters, cord protectors & equipment required to present work. Art Saint Louis reserves the right to install accepted works in a manner deemed necessary for a well-designed exhibition or for security purposes. AWARDS  Five cash Awards of Excellence will be selected by the Jurors for this exhibit and include (1) $250 Best of Show Award of Excellence and (4) $100 Awards of Excellence. Exhibition opportunity

CALL FOR ARTISTS:  The Kirkwood Arts Commission is looking for artists who wish to display their work in a safe, secure venue for the upcoming season of Art at the Station.  Art at the Station has temporarily relocated to the St. Louis Community College campus at Meramec in Kirkwood, while the Kirkwood Train Station undergoes repairs and upgrades. Digital, traditional silver gelatin, and alternative process images are all welcome. We are very pleased that Black and White magazine Editor Dean Brierly has agreed to jury Black and White. He will select 35 images for exhibition in or Middlebury, Vermont gallery, and another 40 for our Online Gallery. All 75 images will be reproduced in the print exhibition catalog.
