This book will be available to purchase during the run of the show. Calls for Submissions

ALTERNATIVE REALITIES
Juror: Laura Moya, Director Photolucida
Deadline: June 4th

Things are not always as they seem.  For the juried exhibition ALTERNATIVE REALITIES, we seek photographs that broaden the definition of realism in photography to encompass subjects that seem imaginary, mysterious, fictional, magical, or even mystical.  While we welcome work in a variety of alternative processes, this is not an alternative processes exhibition per se.  Straight photographs, digitally manipulated work, work that combines alternative processes with standard darkroom or digital printing, or standard alternative process images are all welcome.  We are most interested in compelling images, regardless of the process used to create them. Submission fee: $25 for 5 photos.

THE JURYING PROCESS
If you are not already aware, jurying an exhibition at Art Saint Louis is always an anonymous process. What this means is that at no time before or during the jurying process do our jurors know the names of entering artists. The jurors are presented all entrants' JPEGs in an anonymous digital image presentation and the only information provided to them about the artwork is the following: artwork title, year, media, dimensions & method of presentation (i.e. wall, pedestal, floor). Jurors are never shown the names of any artists. From the jurying presentation and info provided about the artworks, the jurors make their selections for the final exhibit. Artwork selection decisions are in part based on a set of specific jurying instructions & criteria relating to the theme of the exhibit as well as specific conditions & rules of the Gallery. At no time are the jurors shown entrants' names and oftentimes do not even see names for selected artists until they arrive to the Gallery to view final exhibit.

Photo internship with Missouri State Parks

Missouri State Parks is looking for three passionate, committed photographers to spend their summer as paid interns traveling around the state and taking photographs of some of the nation’s finest state parks. This is part of the State Parks Youth Corps program.

You might find yourself spending three days exploring wildflowers and hiking trails at St. Francois State Park in the southeastern part or capturing the beauty of a bison herd at sunset at Prairie State Park in the southwest. A Monday might find you camping at a shady site at Crowder State Park in northwestern Missouri and a Wednesday might find you shooting sweeping overlooks of the Mississippi River at Trail of Tears State Park in the Bootheel or doing art shots of a meteor shower at Hawn State Park south of St. Louis.

You’ll work with talented photographers and editors and have the opportunity to get deep into subjects, as well trying out new techniques and approaches. Your work will be featured in a number of places including maps, visitor guides, the web and advertisements.

If you love photography and the outdoors, this is a tremendous opportunity.
What you need:
  • Be between the ages of 17-23
  • Your own gear (we’re a Nikon shop, by the way, but don’t let that stop you)
  • A way to get to Jefferson City, where you’ll be based
  • A track record of being responsible and a self-starter, as well as being able to think on your feet
  • A positive attitude
What we’ll provide:
  • Transportation and lodging when you’re on the road
  • A salary
  • A week of intensive photo bootcamp with our department photographers
  • The opportunity to shoot diverse subjects every day in settings that are unmatched in their beauty
To apply:
Send a cover letter, resume and links to a portfolio to Judd Slivka at the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The portfolio should include at least one themed group of photos or one of group of photos telling a single story.
