Call for Work: Deadline 2 January 2009

From Paul Ha, Director of the Contemporary: I am looking for artists living/working or have ties to Missouri to participate in an exhibition titled Postcards from the Heartland (How I learned to stop worrying and love the RED state). I’m hoping to bring images from Missouri to New York to convey the political climate in the Heartlands. The show will be exhibited at the Art Production Fund – APF Lab in New York, January 20–30, 2009 the time of the presidential inaugural weeks.

Artists are invited to submit JPEGS of images of “political” images they’ve taken in Missouri and submit the photo(s), with a note of the location, and email them to: postcardsfromheartland@gmail.com by January 2, 2009. Artists may submit as many images as they like for consideration. If included in the exhibition, the artists will be credited as participating in the project and your work will be on view. The show opens on the day of the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony. The images will be projected at the APF Lab and at the close of the exhibition on January 30, 2009 all images will be deleted from the computer.

For the past 100 years, Missouri has been a bellwether in every White House race, voting for the winning presidential candidate in every election except 1956. In the 2008 election, Missouri again played a crucial role as a swing state. Missouri played host to all four candidates who were in and out of the state frequently, and the state was flooded with advertisements. As Missouri was bombarded with ads, little money was comparatively spent in New York. The exhibition, with your participation, will bring the images from the heartland to New York. I hope you decide to participate and if not, feel free to pass this onto those who you feel are appropriate.

About Art Production Fund – APF Lab:
The Art Production Fund is a nonprofit organization that presents public art around New York. The principals Yvonne Force Villareal and Doreen Remen decided to open the space after helping organize art installations in the Park Avenue Armory as part of the 2008 Whitney Biennial. In the SoHo storefront space, the organization invites artists to create installations and performances in the space.

PIEA Contest Deadline: Wednesday, 3 December 2008

PIEA CONTEST ENTRIES DUE

You can’t win your share of the $160,000+ prizes if you don’t enter.
Fees for all School of Communications students paid by the Dean!

Bring your entries to Bill Barrett in the Kirk House by the end of the day, Wednesday,
3 December. We’ll package and mail them for you.

How to Enter (Please read carefully and follow all instructions.)
See http://pieapma.org/contest/rules.htm

Procedure: The entrant must complete all lines (including the home address, phone and preferred computer platform of the entrant) on the Entry Form and sign the Release Agreement at the bottom. PLEASE PRINT NAMES CLEARLY IN CAPITAL LETTERS. (Winners' names will be announced as listed on entry forms.) The Entry Form may be reproduced. Include one Entry Form per entrant with the prints. Do not paper clip, tape, glue or staple the Entry Form to the print. Complete one Fees Form for each package.

The name of the entrant, the school and the classification of the image (e.g., 'Grades 10, 11, 12 - Single Image') must be PRINTED on the back of each print (WE RECOMMEND USING A SOFT LEAD PENCIL or ULTRA FINE MARKER - be sure the marker does not show through on the photo). No identification should appear on the front of the image. Please do not affix ID stickers, or other kinds of labels, to the back of images as they interfere with proper mounting. If the image has a formal title or a working caption you use to identify it, include that with the other information on the back of the print.

ALL PRINTS WITHOUT THE ENTRANT'S NAME, SCHOOL AND CATEGORY PRINTED ON THE BACK WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Finally, print the word 'TOP' at the appropriate position on the back of the image (see example on the entry form). This will ensure that the image is correctly displayed if it is chosen for exhibition. A caption may be printed on the back if desired. An example of this can be found on the entry form.
