Call to Artists - Art in the Park[ing Lot]

Art in the Park[ing Lot] is a community art fair, presented by Chesterfield Arts, previously held in Faust Park every year on Father's Day weekend. The event features art booths featuring regional artists, hands-on art activities for children and adults, performances, workshops and more. Started in 2002 as a way to showcase the local artistic talent to audiences in West County and beyond, Art in the Park has grown from a small one-day event into a two-day festival, with more than 3500 in attendance last year. For 2008, Art in the Park will change locations from Faust Park to the area directly between Chesterfield Arts and the Chesterfield Mall, becoming Art in the Park[ing Lot]!

Call for Work

Art Coop is producing the OLTA Art & Craft Fair at Olive and Taylor in the Central West End on June 7 and 8. This is the same weekend as the CWE Art Fair & Taste. Last year the CWE Art Fair & Taste drew 60,000 visitors. The OLTA Art & Craft Fair is just three blocks away! We expect to draw at least 6,000 visitors, and hope for 10,000. The OLTA Art & Craft Fair will also feature 14 musical groups, 6 "taste of" restaurant booths and numerous special attractions like clashing roller derby women and Shakespearean actors.

We have 23 indoor and 61 outdoor display spaces available. Exhibitors must provide their own tables, booths or tents. All-weekend rental for an indoor 10' facing space is $95. An outdoor 10’ facing space is $90. A second exhibitor may share your space and pay you half your cost if you want.

The 2008 From Our Perspective National Women's Art Exhibition is now open for entries. This unique annual juried exhibition is sponsored by the Womencenter at Oakland Community College. Community Arts Fellowship: Deadline 15 May 2008

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin announces its Community Arts Fellowship program. In its inaugural year, the Community Arts Fellowship is designed to experiment with and define new ways of hands-on collaboration within an arts organization between artists and a broad community. Working in The ARTery space—a hands-on, drop-in, collaborative art-making gallery—the Fellow will have the opportunity to develop interactive projects specific to his/her area of interest that reach out to new communities, provide more in-depth engagement into the exhibitions in the galleries, and provide an accessible entry point to the Arts Center for active participation by people of all skill levels and ages. The fellowship is intended to offer an artist, teaching artist, or artist-administrator (graduate-level candidate or an exceptional undergraduate candidate) professional experience in a nationally acclaimed arts environment. The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex in downtown Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The Arts Center is devoted to innovative explorations in contemporary art, new models for community arts, unique educational partnering with an emphasis on early childhood education, presenting internationally acclaimed performing artists, as well as supporting practicing artists through a variety of residencies. The 100,000-square-foot complex includes ten galleries, a theatre, an interdisciplinary performance space, studio-classrooms, meeting spaces, gift shop, and café. Our next NPPA R7 Photo Event is co-hosted Karen E. Segrave, Region 7 Director and staff photographer with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Jack Hodgson, Associate Professor, School of Journalism & Broadcasting, OSU. Our featured guest speakers are Dan Hale, staff photographer with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Doug Magditch, Region 7 TV POY from KYTV/Springfield, MO. Dan will present a program on the "Highs and Lows of Multimedia" and focusing on things that can hurt and help a Multimedia project. Doug will show his TV POY winning cips from KYTV.

We'll have lots of door prizes to give away thanks to our friends at Think Tank Photo, Gerber, Nikon, Canon. The cost is FREE! Pizza, sandwiches, and drinks will be provided.

April 16 is the one-year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings. We will have a remembrance of the Virginia Tech victims and then a panel discussion about what we at Webster can do to deal with troubled student behavior on our campus.

The panel will include: Ted Hoef, Associate VP and Dean of Students; Dan Pesold, Director of Public Safety; Patrick Stack, Director of Counseling; Colette Cummings, Associate Dean of Students; and John Buck, Associate Dean of Students.

Call for Work: Deadline 1 May 2008

Art Coop is looking for 40 artists to exhibit their work at "Mayo," our May art show opening May 9th.

Artists are invited to submit three works each in any medium or media to exhibit together in celebration of May, Mayo and May Day. This is not a theme show. Your work need have nothing to do with May, Mayo or May Day.

For works submitted to be hung on the wall, each artist is generally limited to approximately 6’ feet of horizontal wall space for the three works. Exceptions will be made for large works where necessary. For large sculpture, freestanding installations or performance art, floor to 15’ ceiling space will be available as required by the work.

Art will be exhibited in the Central West End at 4515 Olive and 462 North Taylor (three doors down the street). Art exhibited on Olive Street will hang from May 9 to 11. Art exhibited on Taylor will hang from May 9 to June 6. Please request a location when submitting art to this CFA.

Art Coop charges no gallery commission on sales of your work, but there is a $25 entry fee per artist (not per work). Exhibition is limited to the first 40 artists accepted. Deadline for received submissions is May 1. But don’t delay submitting. Submissions will be reviewed as received and accepted or rejected only until we have 40 artists accepted. 9 artist slots are already filled.

To submit your work for review, send an email to artcoop@live.com with photos of your work attached. Or provide a website address where we can see your work. In your submission please include your phone number(s) and the approximate size of each submitted work.

Juror Belinda Lee is a professional visual artist and Director of Gallery & Visual Art at COCA and has served as faculty and administrator at Washington University’s Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Art.

The Soulard Art Market and Contemporary Gallery is calling for submissions to "The Beauty Within", a juried exhibition of local artists from June 12, 2008 to July 6, 2008.

Each artist may submit up to 2 original works. We accept most media (Sorry, NO video or
ceiling-suspended artwork.)

Submission Guidelines:
- No more than 2 Pieces of work to be juried.
- Framed 2D artwork must be ready for hanging with wire (no saw tooth hangers).
- All artwork for consideration MUST be submitted via JPEG/JPG image.
- Accompanying e-mail must include title/ media/measurements, contact e-mail address, and phone number.
- File size for each work cannot exceed 500kb and must be attached in JPEG format.
- Website address submissions will NOT be accepted.

THEME ~ For “Patterns and Pixels,” Art Saint Louis seeks artworks that explore the complexity of form and shapes that can be created by pattern, repetition and rhythm—from Mother Nature to the Computer Age. Works that focus on repeating or cumulative elements of design within the artwork.

ELIGIBILITY
~ Open to all visual artists 21 & older residing within a 200-mile radius of St. Louis, MO.
~ Artists representing all levels of experience—from emerging to established—are welcome.
~ Student work is eligible but must be produced independent of instruction.

MEDIA
~ Original artworks in all media* are considered. (*NO web-based works, i.e. works that rely on the use of the Internet for display. We are not yet equipped to exhibit work in these media). Please check with us after 24 regarding submitting ceiling installed work.
~ Artists working in VHS, DVD or CD-ROM must provide all equipment necessary to view work.

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS
~ Juried from the actual artwork only.
~ Proposals for work are not accepted—this exhibit is juried from the actual work.
~ Limit 2 original artworks, created within the past two years (2006-2008).
~ Works may not have been shown in any juried exhibit in the St. Louis area in the past 6 months or in any juried exhibit at Art Saint Louis.
~ All works must be ready for installation. 2-d works must be framed (no clip frames & no saw tooth hangers), matted, equipped with hanging wire & ready to hang. If your 2-d work is unframed yet presented in an alternative fashion, call ASL to discuss.
~ Installation & larger 3-d works: Please call ASL to discuss particulars. Keep in mind that the ASL Gallery is carpeted. Installation & large 3-d works are encouraged, but we request that artist call prior to delivering work to discuss details. Artists should provide detailed installation directions with artwork upon delivery for jurying.
~ Pedestal-displayed works: Art Saint Louis has a limited number of standard-sized pedestals. If your work requires an over-sized or odd-sized pedestal, you may need to provide your own.
~ No wet paintings.
~ Works that do not follow the rules of entry will not be shown to the jurors.

ARTWORK SIZE LIMITS
~ Artworks must fit through standard double-sized doors.
~ Final installation size may not exceed 10' high and/or 16' wide.

SALES, COMMISSION, INSURANCE
~ Works may be for sale or not for sale. Whether for sale or not, for insurance purposes a dollar value must be determined by the artist. Insurance value is 50% of retail value. Please do not list works as POR (price on request).
~ Art Saint Louis encourages sales of artworks and retains a 30% donation on all works sold as a result of this exhibition.
~ Artworks are insured at 50% while on exhibition. Artist may purchase additional insurance at $2 per $100.

AGREEMENT
~ Accepted artists volunteer 4 hours time per each accepted artwork toward production of exhibit, or buy-out time at $20/artwork. Volunteer tasks include: exhibit installation, opening reception, Saturday gallery monitoring, de-installation.

AWARDS
~ After selecting works for exhibition, the jurors will select 4-5 artists/artworks to receive (non-cash) Awards of Excellence. In addition to receiving recognition for their outstanding work in the exhibit, Award recipients will be eligible for the curated “Honor Awards 2009” exhibit (March-April 2009).

TRAVELING EXHIBIT
~ Some of the works featured in “Patterns and Pixels” will be selected for exhibition in two traveling portions of the exhibit to be presented during July 2008 at The Heights, Richmond Heights, MO, and The Centre, Rolla, MO. The traveling exhibits are optional.

~ Entry fees are non-refundable and are used toward the production of this exhibition.
~ $15 current members of Art Saint Louis
~ $25 non-members

Photo Review Competition: Deadline 15 May 2008

The 2008 Photo Review International Photography Competition will be juried by Julie Saul, Director, Julie Saul Gallery, New York City.

The Photo Review’s is “a competition with a difference” that enables thousands of people across the country to see the accepted work in our 2008 competition issue. Also, the prize-winning photographers will be chosen for an exhibition at the photography gallery of The University of the Arts, Philadelphia.

All entries must be received by mail between May 1 and May 15, 2008.

Free (and legal!) Photoshop

Photoshop Express is a new web-based application that will let you upload, edit, sort, store up to 2 GB, and share images online. It's now out in beta (not yet the final release), and you can get in for free.

Photoshop Express doesn't offer the full range of tools in the regular Photoshop application, but will still have its place. You need to use a Flash-enabled browser to get there, but check it out at www.photoshop.com/express.
